So, I've been living with a 401 cel code for the last six months. I tried cleaning out the EGR tube several times with carb cleaner but it just wasn't enough. There was enough flow for the cleaner to get through, but yet, still enough restriction to give me the cel code. So, I started thinking I needed a wire brush, or something flexible that I could stick through the throttle body and into the tube. Digging around my garage I found the perfect tool. I took a 2 foot section of bicycle brake cable housing. This housing is a coil with a plastic coating. I cut off the plastic housing and with a pair of pliers, I bent out the end of the coil ever so slightly to create a "burr". I then stuck the other end of the housing into my cordless drill. With a flashlight I guided the tool into the tube through the throttle body. I shot some carb cleaner into the tube port at the EGR, and carefully turned on my drill. I couldn't believe how much carbon I was able to get out of it.

After starting it back up (with the EGR still off) I could tell right away that it was 100% better by the air intake through the EGR port. It didn't sound like that before.

Any bike shop will have scrap brake cables if you need to do this yourself. This works great because it's so flexible and you don't need to remove the throttle body.

Hope this helps someone out.

Cheers.
