4wheel parts is terrible. I would NOT buy from them. X-terrains are a decent tire. MTRs are much better and for the price of X-terrains they are not worth it at all. I'm replacing my X-terrains with either MTRs or Creepy Crawlers soon. For a rig that sees alot more highway miles than offroad, then that would be the only reason I'd want to go with the Xterrains. They have a much harder rubber compound than MTRs or BFG Muds.

Discount tire is tough to beat IMO. They can get you any tire you want from BFG, Interco, Maxxis, Pro-Comp..you name it they can get it and always good prices and you'll have a local place to mount, re-mount, balance...fix holes...etc. Tough to beat.

+1 for discount, and you can't beat the free replacement warranty.

I've always gotten the price/warranty/service'balancing by dealing with someone face to face. I've used America's Tires/Discount Tires for years since they will actually deal with you on price. Not to mention free balancing. My BFG 33x9.50's were $500 even after $50 rebate.

I noticed the same thing when I was helping my sister find some 31 for her Runner. I figured since she didn't wheel her Runner much she could go with the Procomp AT's and take advantage of the buy 3 get 1 free. Called the local 4wheelparts, and got a quote of over $700. I then called America's tire and got a quote on BFG AT's and it came in around $650. The buy 3 get 1 free is just another way to get impulse buyers to shop, since you don't get anything for free.

Your best bet is to shop locally, this way you don't have to wait to get a tire replaced if you get tread seperation, sidewall puncture, a balancingf problem, or pay to fix a flat. You can also play the local shops against each other, to get a better price on tires or getting the road hazzard upgrade for free, i.e., free replacement v. pro-rated.

you guys gotta actually get on some of these tire shops' sites and check them out. I just recently ordered two sets of tires from Tirerack.com. I got $78ea. local priced tires for $55ea., got them w/road hazard, and then got them mounted and balanced at a local auto shop that I trust. ended up saving around $75 or so. you can even get the tires drop shipped directly to the shop you want to use.

the road hazard warranty is a reimbursement plan kind of thing. there is no waiting to get a tire replaced; basically it's out of pocket up front and they take care of it after an inspection by the repairing/replacing shop.

I think Tirerack is a great reference as far as reviewing tires. I just put some Firestone Destinations on my truck. These have gotten the best reviews at Tirerack. I then checked a few other sources (Mavis Discount tire) and found the customers there are also very happy with this tire. If anything look online for the customer reviews and order from a local trustworthy shop. That is what I did with the Firestones. Through Tirerack the tire price was cheaper but the shipping would have evened out to the shop price. They were 235/75/15s. I ordered two Yokhama Geolanders from Tirerack for my work truck and like these very much as well. I just wanted to have them on hand when I needed them. do a little research, if for nothing else Tirerack is great for tire info.

Pay the guy at wal-mart under the table to mount and balance your tires if you want to save a buck. Chances are they will do it if you ask whoever is working in the shop.

I know there are some deals to be had online for tires, but really if you save 50-100 bucks, then you have to go get them balanced rotated, etc...how much does that cost each time? I balance and rotate my tires about 4-5 times a year. It's nice to have free service locally.

I agree. Last year I ordered 4-31 x 10.5 Bridgestone Revo ATs from Tirerack at a lower price than my cheapest local dealer but after mounting and balancing the total cost was the same. If you can buy locally and get free rebalancing after the initial mounting and balancing then local is THE way to go. Your $$ contrbute to the local economy more directly as well....

When I purchased my MTRÆs last fall, I shopped both locally and online and found Discount Tire was the cheapest with the best service. I did get the price from their online store, Discount Tire Direct and had my local store match the online price saving me $15 per tire and I still get the same great services like rotation, flat fixed and hazard warranty. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
