I gave this a little thought today, and I think I came up with a simple answer for everyone.
First of all, my brake line was too short and cracking anyway, plus I had the axle out. That's why I replaced it. Custom was cheap and very nice. Braided steel really helps with brake feel adn control.
The easiest way to replace the rear springs is to disconnect the lower shock bolts and disconnect one end of the brake line. Then jack the body/frame up until the springs fall out. Easy.
Installation is the reverse. Make sure you get the spring cushoins on right or you will end up with a continuous booming sound in the cab at highway speeds. Don't ask how I know <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Gravity bleed the rear brakes and, viola! 2" rear lift.

OK, so you managed to get me away from the computer for a few minutes and crawl under the truck with the camera. What is it about this that could mean a liability issue?!? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Clay

I looked into this a couple of years ago and IIRC, the local shop that did a ton of custom lines said that their products are "technically" for racing applications only.
Supposedly on regular vehicles, brake systems are something that need to be DOT approved. If not, and you're in an accident because that line gave, or contributed in any way to the accident, then guess who's likely to get reamed? Also, there is a possibility that insurance won't cover you because you've modified your truck with "unsafe/unproven" brake components.
I would imagine the burden of proof will shift to you to proove your modification was safe and didn't cause the accident.

Actully places that make "custom" hoses and lines can be DOT approved depending on which machine they use. At least thats the idea I got when looking through sites like these in my search for hoses. http://www.magillsquality.com/brakehose.htmhttp://www.globalspec.com/FeaturedP...stom_Brake_Hoses_Brake_Assemblies/24486/I ran across a place selling the machine that attached the fittings and it said "DOT approved, meets standards" So I think the machine has to be DOT approved and then maybe even the service facility. But Joe Blow probably will not make the DOT cut... SHRUG

Stainless steel braided brake lines <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> Their is a reason most of them are not DOT approved. The braid wears thru the inner softer parts over time. In fact the Federal Code of regulations that approve braided lines state addition hardware must be used to prevent any line whip. So even lines that are DOT approved come with that extra fine print.
It's another application of race technology that does not fit a daily driver. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

And on top of that. My WRX failed inspection because i had braided lines. The guy told me that with braided lines, its imposable to see what is going on with the ruber behind the braid. If there were to be a crack that he couldnt see and pass my car than he is liable when it finaly blows. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

Well its done. Got gen II springs in the rear. I got like 1-1.5" of lift and it evened out with the front height quite nicely. Just took the brake line loose, put the fork lift under the hitch and lifted until the springs popped out. And bleeding the rear drums was simple. Except my brake fluid looks like motor oil.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> Anyways thanks for all the help guys!!

Hmm. That's very interesting. I didn't know any of that. I'll have to ask about my lines.
I wonder if the plastic outer coating makes a difference in the approval.
