Actully places that make "custom" hoses and lines can be DOT approved depending on which machine they use. At least thats the idea I got when looking through sites like these in my search for hoses.

I ran across a place selling the machine that attached the fittings and it said "DOT approved, meets standards" So I think the machine has to be DOT approved and then maybe even the service facility. But Joe Blow probably will not make the DOT cut... SHRUG
