That sounds like a split CV axle boot to me; those will sling grease pretty well once they're wide open. The how-to for replacing is in our maintenance section here.

Crawl under there and see what you find.


I was thinking that or a leaking seal at the diff running down the prop shaft. Ditto on the visual inspection, only way you will be able to begin the diagnosis.
