Well, I have finally realized that the 22RE is not quite up to the task just yet here on the Autobahns... I can cruise comfortably at 80 (as long as there is no headwind), but as soon as I hit the slightest grade or headwind, the poor hamsters get tired. I am looking for ideas to free up more power.

Here's what I run:

22-RE
0.040" overbore
EB SS Pistons
EB SS/OS valves
EB 270/430 cam
EB H/V Oil pump
EB Steel rail timing set
EB Water pump
Intake gasket-matched
2.25" exhaust, Flowmaster 50 series
K&N drop-in filter
Denso plugs/wires, OEM cap/rotor
Redline synthetic oils in transmission, transfer, and diffs.
I also dropped down to 31's before bringing the rig here.

What else can I do? Would an MSD-6A help? I know I can bump my timing up and run premium, but with the cost of fuel over here, it's not really an option ($2.64 for 86 octane, $2.79 for 88, and $2.99 for 91 *on base*).

Who has any ideas? EB?

BTW: It needs to remain a reliable DD while here... I am not looking to go 200 mph, just to not get run over when passing a semi.

Find some 4:88's out of a junkyard... At the very most they'll be 200$ a diff.

4.88:1 combined with the W56 trans will wind out too fast on 31's. 4.56:1 would be ideal, yet still wind up above 80.

I need top speed here. My accelleration is fine (I can burn tires if need be), but I run out of breath against the stiff headwinds here.

Yeah... I dropped down right before coming here due to very strict modification laws. I still have my 33's for whenever I join an eastern european (or scandinavian) wheeling expedition.

4.56 gears would be a good investment and would give you the biggest bang for the buck w/ 31s.
A bored out throttle body can help, maybe the larger AFM, too.
Also, at 80+, aerodynamics can help big time, a wind deflector in the rear and maybe one on the hood and if you have the front lifted w/ torsion bars, consider dropping it down an inch or two.

Is it a bored out throtthle body or plenum that would help?

AFM searching will be highly difficult over here... Most Toyotas were diesel (lucky dogs).

I though about lowering the front, but I don't want to look too goofy going down the road like that.
