Is it a bored out throtthle body or plenum that would help?

Yes smile. The TB is bored out then you gasket match the inlet of the plenum to match the large TB opening.

Turbo or supercharger, i know they're big bucks, but if you want to do 100mph up hills, it's the only way you can do it without dropping in a big v6 or v8...

Look, I'm all for the turbo stuff, but I don't think that's within the scope of what DRTDEVL is asking for.

The TB/plenum upgrade *may* net you 5 hp overall, and 3 hp peak. It helps, but not a lot. The MSD probably won't make any difference in top speed either, based on your current mods (although I like, use, and recommend their stuff).

Another thing to consider is adjusting your cam timing a bit. If you retard the cam timing you will shift the powerband higher (and advancing cam timing will shift it lower). You need an adjustable cam gear, and 2?-3? would be about the right adjustment. This would shift peak torque 300-600 rpm higher, and when combined with a gearing change, may be enough for what you're after.

I would also agree with Roger: I think this is a gearing/aerodynamics issue. The drag coeficient of the pickups is pretty awful, and this becomes a real problem above 65 mph, never mind 80+ -- it's boxy coming and going, with a face like a bulldozer and a rear bed that traps a lot of air. There's not a lot you can do to the front of the truck, but installing one of those net tailgates in the rear may help a little. A tonneau top would probably help, too, but the net gate is a lot easier.

Also, if you can do anything to smooth the undercarriage, that may help a bit. But really, I think correcting the gearing, and possible plaing with cam timing, will be the biggest bangs-for-your-buck.

just be lucky you dont drive a jeep. its hard for the 4.0l's to hit 80 mph haha.

i read that having the tailgate down actually hurts your aerodynamics. there is a test they did on it somewhere. tonneau covers and rear spoilers on pickups actually help it the most. i dont have the balls to put a rear spoiler on my truck though .

i had no problem cruising at 90 going to uva but idk if thats a good idea. i think i was pretty much maxed out at 95 though. that was before my exhaust. i wonder what it is now. i think fixing my bent driveshaft might help a bit too haha.

do you have your skidplate and lower valance on on?
if you have a body lift, i say you do a 2" drivetrain lift w/ the budbuilt skidplate. that should help out a bit....probably, but youll gain some ground clearance which will make youre breakover angle sick haha.

He has a 4runner.
My 3.0 maxes out at 100mph, but i tell you, i dont drive that speed often, 80mph is the max cruising speed (some days, it just wants to cruise at that speed, usually it stays around 60-65 tho)...

i assumed it was a truck b/c of mosk's post reffering to the tailgait net.

With all that you have done to the engine, other than NOS, gears are your only option. 4.56's will put you back to oem spec.s, so you should be able to cruise at 80 even w/a head wind, and they will make turning the 33's easier when you have them on.

If shipping used diffs is going to be to expensive, you might consider dropping down to a 28" tire, for street use. With 28's and your mod's, you shouldn't have any power problems.

I know about the cam timing adjustments... When I towed the 73 Buick to Tennessee from Florida, I advanced the cam 1 tooth on the gear. Peak torque was felt from 1600-3000 rpm, but it fell on it's face soon thereafter (perfect for that trip, though).

Shipping used diffs would be hella expensive. I *might* be able to find boneyard diffs someday, but I haven't even seen a Hilux in the yards yet.

I was hoping there was something out there that I might have missed for power, but it doesn't look like it. Yes, I can break 100 mph, but the conditions have to be right. All speeds I have referenced were indicated, not actual... So in reality, I am cruising at about 90, and can break 115. Just saying that if any conditions change above 90, it quickly falls below 75 (not good when in the passing lane on the Autobahn).

I'll have to talk to "David in Germany" about it. See what he has done to his 87 4Runner over here. I can't see a stock 4Runner surviving very long.

Before any changes are made in this department, I will be adding more security mods... All the neighbors are commenting on the rig, and they all love it. Seems to be the consensus of the German population that an old 4Runner is the coolest thing on the planet. I don't think it will be long before someone attempts a "test-drive" in the middle of the night.

I will *not* put 28" rubber on... How rediculous would that look with a 3" body lift?

Thanks for all the suggestions... Multiple minds are always better than one, so keep them coming.

well, you could always get a piggyback computer and dyno tune all your mods, you can probably pick up 10-15hp that way,...
Also, do a short ram intake like 4crawlers, where you relocate the batter to the AFM side, and put the AFM right beside the intake. Get an intake from a 89+ truck, they give about 8 more HP...... make the intake draw air from the fenderwell so it's nice and cool, not using engine heated air... cover it up when you go 'wheeling tho...

My bad, I didn't see the 3" lift in your tag, I assumed that since you were running 31's you may have only mod'd the fenders to fit 33's, or were running a narow 33.
