Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
you may want to "richen" the afm up. you do this by removing the black cover, and moving the wheel up to 3 teeth. this will help with the increased flow ofthe exhaust and intake. write up is here. note: no cleaner save electrical contact cleaner (and this should be used extremely sparingly. canned air for computer cleaning would be better) should be used in the AFM. the electronics in there are easily damaged.

i would adjust your cam ahead, and START LOOKING FOR A DIESEL ENGINE (ill take one too...)
how much longer are you in germany? i wouldnt spend a ton on sourcing thirds just to keep up with m6's and kompressors all day. you still have a 4runner..it is still a box on wheels.
i would go down to 235s if i really wanted speed, adjust the timing, and touch nothing else. godforbid id screw up my AFM and have find one in europe at an inflated price.
diesel.............drool..

I am NOT messing with my AFM...
I'll just follow EB's advice. Not much more I can do for speed.
I'll lower my front an inch, and possibly find some 4.56's in the future.
Oh, and I have 34 months remaining here on a 36 month tour.

A new development...
I have noticed a slight rattle from time to time, and today it got real loud on deceleration. I checked everything in the drivetrain, but I could not find the problem.
When I went out to start the 4Runner this evening, I heard the rattle at cold idle... I think the honeycombs have broken loose inside my cat! Maybe it doesn't like all the full-throttle runs in the last month.
Being in Germany, I am going to make a test pipe to put in place of the cat this weekend... I can't spare the cash for a new cat right now, but I can handle $20 in materials to make the pipe. I'll have to post up next week to see if I got any more out of the engine.

You can try tapping on the cat with a small hammer and see if you hear any rattles. Be sure and use some kind of penetrating lubricant on the nuts to the cat. I'm sure they are pretty well rusted on, due to heat and moisture exposure.
