been a while since i've pulled the drive spline off -- i *THINK* you face the dimpled side out. as for the arrows on the pump gears, no wrong way to put them in, as long as the gears are facing the right side(and i think unless there's arrows on both sides, just put the arrows facing you when you assemble the pump).

pack the pump with white lithium grease or vaseline before installation
