Finally got the engine running after all my problems! But I have a few new problems. I didn't set my timing yet or anything, but my truck now idles at about 500RPM.. I'm thinking it's supposed to be a bit higher than that.
Also, my brakes dont work.. I dont' know if there's a common problem with this if a truck has been sitting for a year. I press the pedal down, but there's no pressure at all, unless I pump really fast.
Also, with the brakes, when I do pump them fast, my idle goes even lower than 500RPM, almost stalling the engine.. any insight on this?
And another question... I'll probably figure it out on my own, but none of my driveshafts are hooked up.. but when the engine's running, and the 5-speed in nuetral, the tranny still spins... it doesn't go fast, but it is spinning.. is this normal?
Thanks guys... Once these are figured out, I wont' be asking many questions.. I'll be answering instead!

It's normal for the trans to spin like that. Caused by friction from the thick gear oil.

I didn't set my timing yet or anything, but my truck now idles at about 500RPM.. I'm thinking it's supposed to be a bit higher than that. Yup. If it's a carbie you'll want to set it at 700 RPM but if it's an auto you'll need it at 750 RPM, both R and RE Also, my brakes dont work.. I dont' know if there's a common problem with this if a truck has been sitting for a year. I press the pedal down, but there's no pressure at all, unless I pump really fast. Bad master cylinder, mine did the same thing. Don't drive it. Also, with the brakes, when I do pump them fast, my idle goes even lower than 500RPM, almost stalling the engine.. any insight on this? Yes, this is the vacuum brake booster, which takes vacuum directly from the manifold to boost the brakes, makes it easier to push the pedal, ever driven an older vehicle w/o power brakes? Idle goes down when another vacuum source is introduced into the system, tempoarily causing the engine to run lean(rich?) for a bit, untill the diaphragm fills.....ever seen the size of the vacuum hose that goes to that thing? And another question... I'll probably figure it out on my own, but none of my driveshafts are hooked up.. but when the engine's running, and the 5-speed in nuetral, the tranny still spins... it doesn't go fast, but it is spinning.. is this normal? I would assume so, prob has to do with not having d-shafts for friction/resistance...... Thanks guys... Once these are figured out, I wont' be asking many questions.. Alright, is there a certain way to point to just the master cyclinder? I dotn' want to start spending money on parts that may or may not fix it.. know what I mean!?
Also, how do i set the RPM on a 22RE? Do I have to mess with the timing, or is there a screw that I mess with like on the 22R?

Yup. If it's a carbie you'll want to set it at 700 RPM but if it's an auto you'll need it at 750 RPM, both R and RE
set your timing before you set your idle. it is almost directly affected by it. your timing is probably a little retarded. Quote:

Bad master cylinder, mine did the same thing. Don't drive it. yes these are symptoms of a bad master cylinder, but they are also symptoms of air in the lines. dont go throwing parts at a truck unless you know for sure whats wrong w/ it. Quote:

I would assume so, prob has to do with not having d-shafts for friction/resistance...... this is normal, and your truck will do this even when the wheels are on. if youve ever jacked the back of your truck up, turned it on and put it in neutral. youll notice the wheels spinning slowly. theyll spin faster if you slightly push the shifter towards a gear even w/o pressing in the clutch. this is called viscious revolution.
