Getting the Wheeling Fever

Does anyone have a good picture of how the coil is wired on a Gen 1? I am not getting any fire from my coil and I don't know if I wired it in right?

on mine it just pulled out. put new one in and installed postive to postive ect ect. double check the wiring . easy as that. make sure nothing is causing it to short out. the connections are good ect. took me like 5 minutes to change. if it could be anything else one of the wisemen on here will chime in. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
95 SR stock but i hope not for long....

I have it wired correctly, the coil is good, but I am not getting any fire from it. Any ideas?

Isn't there a sensor in the distributor that has been cousing some trouble to others here. A magnetic thingie that tells the coil when to fire.

After checking everything with an ohm meter, it looked like my control module was out. I took it out and carried it to O'Reilly's to be tested it was confirmed. There goes another hundred bucks. It will be in Thursday morning.

Funny how control modules can ruin you budget in such short time. Now get this, my Mazda Rx3, back home in Puerto Rico, had both control modules shot and the dealer wanted $250 e/a <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> so my mechanic took two made for Chevrolet $12 e/a and plugged them in and Bingo!!! it has been working great ever since.
Now, will it work with the Monty? I don't know but if they ever fail on me I try the Chevy one again.
88 red Montero with the Dakar Special Edition decals, 438,000 miles (As of 7/23/2012) some occational blue puffing but still strong and counting!!! I am going ppsshhh (turbo), Stay tuned =) ...

when mine went bad (which is another way to say that I burnt it up wiring it wrong) I just bought an entire distributer for a 1987 Dodge Caravan from the local yard for $15 -- they guarenteed the module to be good, and it was. Heck of a lot cheaper, and now I have a spare distributer if I ever need it. Terry

I burnt it up wiring it wrong That is what I did...just wasn't paying attention. I have not had much success in finding things in the local salvage yards. I probably need a bigger list of compatible vehicles.

None of the GM modules will fit the Monty, but a lot of other stuff used them, including strange stuff like Fiat. The Mitsu module is quite common in the mitsu line, though, and maybe other ***** engines, too, and some Mopar badged stuff, including the 2.6 caravan engine. Also look at pickups (mitsu and d-50 and plymouth arrow).
For some cross fits, try car-part.com and check interchange vehicles at the opt.
