Getting the Wheeling Fever
Can anyone help me with an good illustration of preferred jack points (just for tire rotation) for 2002 4WD? I'd really appreciate it!

What kind of jack are you using?

If you are using a floor jack, then you can lift the rear using the center of the rear axle. For the front, i usually try to use a flat spot on the front suspension to lift with (helps if your jack has a rubber pad on the saddle...). And I hope you have a pair of jack stands to make everything easier.

like hupptoy said for the rear you can jack it up from the pumpkin, but i would definatly(sp?) put jacks on each side of it. at work when i jack up ifs trucks i use two jacks on the ifs crossmember. if you live near a discount/americas tire co they will rotate your tires for free.

nevermind, i dont think we have an stores in penn. but i could be wrong <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Speaking of jack points, I do a fair amount of exploring off road and the factory jack barely works on pavement. I have a high lift which works fine on the rear bumper but as for jacking the front the truck - forget it.

Questions -

1. I have never actually used the high lift on the rear bumper. Does the lifting nose on the jack work safely with the stock Taco bumper or do you need the bumper lift accessory?

2. What do you think is the best way to go for the front - replace front bumper or get sliders strong enough to lift the truck? I don't want to weld on my frame but I have heard that the bolt on sliders can support the truck. Is there any other cheaper alternative?

Thanks

Ummm... i'd only use a highlift on a tube style bumper, or on a reciever hitch... me thinks it will tear open a stock bumper like a tin can...
Rock sliders (NOT nerf bars) can be hi-lifted using a round tube adaptor... o relse they can slide off pretty easy...

That's a great jacking description but as I remember the OEM jack barely lifts a stock 4x4 high enough. With even a minor lift I don't think it can lift the tire. Anything other than pavement under the jack is asking for trouble.

(Although if you want to get technical the lift makes no difference since the relationship between the jacking point and hub/axle has not changed at max droop but a larger tire will make it more difficult)
