Oh yeah... the alloy they used on the studs seems to suck pretty bad. Put an impact wrench on 'em and they are pretty much guaranteed to strip. OFF or ON ... doesn't matter.

My first tire change at one of the chain tire stores netted me TWENTY FOUR lugs and wheel nuts needing replacement.

I was lucky though, the store RE-IMBURSED me for the repair. It cost them $411 bucks (at a shop of MY choosing) to have them studs replaced. More than half that was just for the studs and lugs. (and I got a free bearing re-pack outta the deal) I didn't pay that much for the four tires!

Went back there a few years ago to get another set of tires. SAME TECH is there! This is like 4 years after the first set. He remembered me... I stood there and watched him remove and install the lugs BY HAND.

Some shops around here charge extra $$$ if they have to do it by hand. (minds outta the gutter, boys!)

I did end up givin' the tech a nice tip though, he was real careful this time! BTW, if when the tech starts working on yer rig, you casually let him see you pull a $20 outta yer billfold/pocket/bankroll and put it in the top pocket of yer shirt, he's likely to do a bit better job for ya.
