Well folks I finally did it. I bought my first Jeep. I have been involved in the 4x4 community since the late 70's and have owned, landcruiser, Toyota p/u, blazer, 3 different chevy trucks and a Trooper but now bought me a Jeep. Always wanted one and have had friends that owned them. It ia a 94 Wrangler 4L,5 speed. It has a 3 inch lift running 32x11.5x15 on rockcrawler rims. It is in very good shape in and out except knucklehead who owned it snapped the rear shaft off at the transfer. He sheared it not at the u joint but at the case. Never seen that before!! Shaft is fine no twisting or dents. I am buying it from Cheap Jeeps in Framingham, Ma. Don't know if any of you Central Mass. folks know of them. They have been in the strictly Jeep business for close to 30 years. Not big volume but good quality and support. He goes thru bumper to bumper and fixes anything needed plus has a 6 month warranty which is unheard of in the used car market. He will fix everything before the Jeep is sold.

Not yet! I haven't got it home yet. There were a few items I wanted them(dealer)to fix I should have it Tuesday or Wed at the latest. We don't own a digital camera although my wife's B-day is Monday, might be a good excuse to pick one up. I know I am going to get a rash of crap form the Bronco guys I wheel with but that's okay my son is always pulling them out with his GMC K2500. I'm like a kid at Christmas am driving my wife nuts looking thru aftermarket catalogs and such. But she doesn't mind keeps out of the bar rooms!

Ya I know about the disease, had it for years upgrading all kinds of toys. The problem with the Jeep strain is there are so many gosh darn options!! Unbelieveable!!! I am in deep trouble!! Although alot of my planned upgrades such as rock sliders, skid plates etc we plan to fabricate ourselves. A little material, a little welding, a little more material, a little more welding ,a little paint and presto the finished product.

There's hope for you yet! Being able to make your own parts is a big bonus. Fun too. I have a broke down Toyota in the drive. It belongs to my neighbor and is waiting for ANOTHER head repair. I watched him change a head on it several months ago. It's a pain in the to work on compared to a Jeep. His stepkid decided to take it offroad (unauthorized) and play in mud. Well he got stuck in mud the belt came off, overheated the engine and now the head Gasket's blown again (not the same head). So I get to watch and listen to him do it again. I am impressed with how well a nearly stock Toyota can do off road whenever I wheel with one. But I'm glad I don't have to do This head job. (I just provide space and half the tools). IMO, for off road fun the SWB Jeeps can't be beat. Easy to work on, lots of aftermarket stuff available everywhere. Cheaper preplacement parts, and to be able to ride topless and doorless is the icing on the cake.

We usually wheel on power lines that are not posted. The cops don't seem to mind as long as you are coutessy to abutters and are not a slob 4 wheeler. There is a decent one in Upton on Upton Rd. just outside Hopkinton. Also we have run some in Rutland and Townsend but that was awhile ago and haven't been back in a few years. I have found if isn't posted no one usually bothers you. Not sure if Cheap Jeeps sells parts I am going down there either tomorrow or Wed. I'll ask them! Never dealt with Elias 4WD but I have heard they are good. There is another guy in Ashland who advertises in the WantAd under the Jeep section he always has stuff.
