Just less knocking... but perhaps someone more knowledgeable can elaborate on this.

Octane is a anti-knock additive for high compression engines. It has very little to do with MPG. Use whatever gas is recommended in the owners manual.

... Ummm ... not good.
The V6 is said to be better than V4.
Most of us don't have working gas gauges, ... for the better.

Your MPG seems a little bit low. I monitored mine for 3 years and averaged 19MPG on long, highway journeys and 14MPG on my daily commute (I-395 into DC). Ref octane rating I used all grades of fuel and didn't get any noticeable changes in MPG, performance or knock. Handbook recommends premium gas, so I used that nearly all the time.
By the way, I'm in UK now and gas prices here are about $6.20 per gallon!! What we all need is an Raider/Montero/Pajero electric motor conversion

Not sure what it is but once I put the 33's on it became awful. I am only getting about 250 miles out of a full tank.
It doesn't help that I am allways on the gas though. If I babied it I might get some better gas mileage.

Doug, don't forget to factor in the reduction in gearing therefore the reduction in the odometer mileage as well. IIRC there's a 12-13% difference in size from the stock tire to the 33" tire. This means you're actually travelling 113 miles for every 100 miles on your odometer unless you've changed out the speedometer gear in the xcase.
I'd check your speed using a GPS then factor the difference into your mileage calculations.

I did. 230 miles to the tank if I don't add in the 10% or so increase. The truck originally had 31's as far as I know.
