On the way to work this morning mine started making a loud banging moise from underneath. It sounds like somthing loose banging around. I am sure that it is somewhere from the T/C to the rear diff, but not sure what. When it is sitting still there is no noise (except that ticking I was wining about). Any ideas?

Crawl under and take a good look. If something's loose, better to find out before you continue driving.

Sound like a tin can full of rocks being dragged under your truck? Take a look where the rear driveshaft enters the transfer case. There's a dust shield there that is friction-fit and may have come loose and is rattling around on the output shaft.

Looks like the wheel was falling off. I tightened them and got it home. I will have to replace all six lugs this weekend.
No one was hurt, so go ahead and laugh. I could have sworn we tightened those. Guess not.

Have fun. Normal length lugs won't come out without taking stuff way apart....

Thanks Dan, I can really use those instructions. Of course I laughed when I read 2-3 hours. I set aside Saturday for the one stud on the front passenger side and Sunday for the six on the rear driver side. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
