My truck has been on jackstands for the past 6 mos.[doing some front end work] and about twice a week I crank it and let it run for 20 mins. Well three days ago I cranked it up as usual and after 10 mins. it shut off. I tried to crank it up and it would hit a couple of times and thats it. I just replaced the fuel pump but not the filter so I did that today. Tried it and it wouldnt do anything. Took the fuel line loose on top of the motor, turned the key and fuel came out. Took the intake pipe off and squirt some gas in it and it fired up, idled fine but when I give it gas it stalls out.It will not crank on its own, I have to squirt gas in the intake to get it to crank. What do you think it could be. Pressure regulator????

how long has that batch of fuel been in the tank? If it's been up on jacks for 6 mos, could just be bad fuel...Check the fuel filter and see if it's got any foreign object.

I changed the filter yesterday, and still no luck.I just put 5 gals. in it the day before. Is there a filter of some sort up by the motor that I dont know about? Does anyone know a easy way to check a fuel regulator?

Easy way is with a fuel pressure guage. Measure the pressure before the regulator and the pressure after and there should be a drop after the regulator. It doesn't regulate flow. It maintains the pressure in the fuel rail to keep the injectors spraying the right amount of fuel.

Maybe it's not the fuel. A missing vacuum line will give you the same problem and it's not going to fire if the air intake on the throttle body is disconnected.

After trying to crank it are the plugs wet? May be the injectors need to be cleaned.

Today I get it to crank[Had to spray gas in the intake]and I figured out that I can keep it running when it tries to die by turning the key forward to start. It didnt make much sense until I realized that that is the only time the fuel pump is pumping fuel. Is that supposed to be that way or is it supposed to pump all the time? I dont know if it just pumps like that to prime the system or what. My haynes manual doesnt say anything about that.

It sounds as though your fuel pump relay is gone. The relay only is energized once the engine starts. It is by-passed during the starting procedure.

O.K let me ask you this, the heater relay looks the same, could I just swap them to see if that is the problem??

Well, I just went outside and tried that and that didnt fix it. Its so weird, I get it cranked and when I mash the gas the motor stalls and when I let off the gas is when it revs up. You dont think some throttle position sensor would be causing this do you??????
