Did a complete tuneup (timing belt/H2O pump, all drive belts, sparkplugs, fuel filter) and changed all the fluids on my 2001 4Runner 2 months ago. Just haven't had time to post until now. Had to buy a new Torque wrench cause my old one didn't go up to the required 220ft lbs the crank bolt needed. Drove it off the lot with 2 miles on the odometer from Atlanta Toyota back in Dec 2000.

102,043 miles...currently it has ~109K miles

The water pump was leaking...

Kinda interesting that Toyota used 2 different brands of spark plugs. NKG on the passenger side and DENSO on the driver's side...

All done and good for another 100K miles. Don't have some current pics of her outside, but will post once I get some...

Shoot, you're just getting it broke in!

You might want to check the recalls for your rig tho' threads over in tech archive. Do a view adjustment for less than one year

Is that the 1st time you changed plugs??!! The plug change interval is 30K miles. And I hope you are changing your fluids more often than 100K miles.

Most people just use the NGK's or the Denso's once they do the 1st plug change.

Well, a double platinum plug should go 100K and I believe toyotas come with Iridium plugs which are even better than the platinum. I know that Toyota tells ya to replace them at 30K but thats ridiculous. Those plugs are like $10-$15 a plug. A regular ole plug will go 30K. As far as the fluids, it depends, on my 02 Highlander you supposedly never have to service the tranny fluid or so the owners manual says. On my 05 Tundra it claims to replace as necessary whatever that means. I figure I'll change mine at 30K then at 100K.

Well, You want to change YOur tranny fluid no later then 15k miles for the first change (if it's a new truck)

Heck, even 10k miles if You could. Then change again @ 30k, then again at 60k....ect...

I say, once a year, because once You clogg Your tranny filter, You pretty much just killed Your transmission.

I've seen entirly too many people come into the shop, and need a new transmission simply because they didn't change the fluid soon enough.

A platinum plug should go 100K, but his plugs are NOT platinum! The 3.4 came with "regular ole plugs", although with twin electrodes. The manual says to change non-platinum plugs at 30K and platinum plugs at 100K. And yes IIRC some Toyota cars come with Iridiums or Platinums.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Assuming those are the original plugs, it lasted that long without any problems. Why change it if it ain't broke?
