are you guys running oil pressure switch relays to your pumps so that if the engine dies the pump cuts off?

otherwise, what do you to cut of the fuel flow until the engine is actually running? what if your engine dies with the ignition switch on? isn't it still pumping fuel into your carb?

Well Its been working all day, and I drove around quite a bit. Ive still got my figers crossed that it is fixing itself.

what gauge wire are you running to it. it might be starved for power. check to see if you have a good ground also

I was thinking about getting some thicker wire for it. Its 14 I think, maybe 16 gauge wire. Ive checked the ground, it is grounded where the fuel pump bolts on so that is pretty secure.

I was going to ge one of those, but then I could only find one on summit and didnt feel like dropping $20 on it. I got a switch in the cab instead. It doubles as a kill switch too. I just had to get in the habit of turning it on and off, Ive never had trouble leaving it on, its pretty loud.

Mine is only on there to 'suppliment' the stock mechanical pump, at least this is what I was told, the PO installed it.....near as I can tell, it's got a pressure regulator on it, you can hear it if you turn the key to 'ON' it runs for a sec and then turns off, you never hear it again unless I get at some crazy angles, where the carb would normaly start to sputter and then it kicks in.

I've never heard of anyone running two fuel pumps.
can you explain how this works?
how does the stock one stop working at extreme angles?

seems to me like running two fuel pumps would push too much fuel to the carb, or are you saying they both don't run at the same time?

to tell you the truth, I really don't know, it was on there when I got it and that's how it was explained to me....I know the factory pump still works, and the other one only comes on at extreme angles, well that's when I can hear it, or when my fuel filter starts getting clogged. Near as I can tell, it's pressure regulator is set so it turns on when the fuel pressure drops below whatever the factory pump runs at....but I'm still at a loss as to how, or why it works <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> but I can tell you, it dosen't have as much trouble when you start gettin tippy as my buddies carbed '85 does......

hmm.
interesting.
I've almost put on an electric pump a couple of times, but not yet... got too many unanswered questions smile

I was in the same position, I did quite a bit of reading about the pros and cons before installing. At first the sound was kind of annoying but now its comforting...one more thing I know is working. With my weber its really nice to have the electric because of the rotary style it is. It pumps fuel consistently where the stock pump sends fuel in bursts. My engine smoothed out a bit and seemed a bit more responsive.
