Just bring your ratchet and 19mm socket and tighten it back on, you shouldn't be able to crank it so hard that it won't come back off, the key, I think it to just break the lock-tite thats on the bolt, or the tension from the 'spring' washer that OOP'S was talking about. I think you'd be fine on your way home, provided your not playin boy racer the whole way home and shiftin at redline through every gear <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

The motor I was fixing up didnt run in the first place so driving it home wasn't an option. I live in a small enough town that Dad just hooked a strap on and towed me home (it was about a mile round trip). If your truck currently runs and you dont have it too far apart you could definatly re-tighten the bolt into place as it is really just keeping the lower pulley on (the key on the crank keeps the pully from spinning). Just get it good and tight with a 3/8 socket and you'll have no problems getting it out with a 1/2 breaker bar once you are home.

I had the same problem when I did mine. Nothing would work...I tried a 600lb impact wrench, tried the bump starter method, tried putting the truck in gear to hold the pulley but it didnt hold the pulley well enough. What worked for me and will work for you is take a good sized chain wrench and wrap it around the pulley (be sure to wrap a towel around the pulley first so the chain wrench doesnt chew up the pulley. Get the chain wrench tight and rest the handle under the drivers side frame rail. Then get a breaker bar and 4ft or bigger piece of steel pipe and give it a rip. The harder you pull on the pipe the tighter the chain wrench gets and will hold that pulley in place.
