Does anyone have photos of the hose connections from the TB to the plenum, engine, etc.?

Hi Ted. I have the 22-RE, '88 vintage, w/power steering, no AC.

I sent Darin some photos of my current hose/vac line hookup(basically 3-engine compartment shots), last night. His thought is that I have something hooked up wrong which may be but the more I look at the FSM diagrams compared to my photos, the less I think I have something miss-connected and the more I think something else is broken, cracked, etc.

After looking at the pictures more this morning, I still dont like what I see with that fat hose attached to the top forward nipple on the T-body. Where does the other end of that hose connect? And if it connects at a junction or T....what else is connected there? Here is a picture of a non A/C 22RE that has PS. More examples to follow as soon as I get them uploaded proper.

*these are examples of engines with PS butt no A/C pulled from various online sources. When there isnt A/C then the idle adjust on the side of the plenum isnt used.

My guess is that one of the smaller bypass lines for coolant to feed the auxiallary air valve is connected to the top of the throttle body....creating a crude and overpowerful water injection of his cooling/cold start system.

looks like he's using that hose to directly feed the power steering assist vacuum modulator on the pump. I don't beleive that is correct. it should go to a device mounted on teh side of the manifold with a plastic hex top and spring under the cap.

Hmmm. You are on to something here. The hose that I have hooked up to that forward nipple has the other end connected to a L-fitting that is on the underside of the intake runner manifold. I will check tonight to see if that fitting is plumbed to coolant.

Thanks for all your time and effort on this one!

I'll save you the trouble of pondering the L shaped fitting....it is coolant. The only tubes under the intake that arent coolant associated are the aux. air valve hoses that connect to underside of the Tbody and side of intake plenum. Betchya a nickel, if you pull that hose off the top of the T-body, your intake runners will stay dry. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well. I was wrong. The fat hose that I have connected to the TB goes underneath to another fitting on the TB. It just takes a circuitous path down past the T-stat. to get there.
The elbow fitting I spoke of is indeed on the underside of the intake and is carrying coolant from a short tube fitting that comes back off the side of the timing chain cover next to the block.

So now I feel like I am back to square one. FSM does have a complete and clear picture of all the plenum hose connections. Especially the ones that are on the underside.

Any one have any pics of partial disassembly, like with the plenum unbolted yet with hoses still connected?

Need better pics of how you have things hooked up around the Tbody. My 88' doesnt have PS...I might grab some pics of it at lunch for you to reference since its complete and hooked up proper.

Just a quick off the top of my head description of the hoses.

From the 90' fitting behind and left of the T-stat cover to bottom side of the throttle body directly below the TPS.

Bottom of Throttle body (long angled tube) to side of Aux. Air Valve that hangs off front of the intake manifold.

Side of Aux Air Valve (next to previously mentioned hose) to hard pipe thats bolted to the back of the timing cover.

Another fatter hose comes from a 90* fitting on the underside of the intake manifold and connects to the hard pipe at the back of the timing cover. Hose is "U-shaped".

**D-oh!! Forgot, Im in the 4Runner today. Its been converted to late style Tbody and plenum...and is PS, A/C equipped so won't do you much good. I'll see what I can find though....maybe have one of my laborers who drives an EFI'd truck come by the office for pics.

Nope. From the 90' fitting, hose goes to to the power steering pump.
From the bottom side of the throttle body goes the 'fat' hose that you see in my photo to the fitting on the top, drivers side of the throttle body.

According to connection example #1 above, I think we(you really) have found my the source of my problem.

Comments/thoughts?
