Well. I was wrong. The fat hose that I have connected to the TB goes underneath to another fitting on the TB. It just takes a circuitous path down past the T-stat. to get there.
The elbow fitting I spoke of is indeed on the underside of the intake and is carrying coolant from a short tube fitting that comes back off the side of the timing chain cover next to the block.

So now I feel like I am back to square one. FSM does have a complete and clear picture of all the plenum hose connections. Especially the ones that are on the underside.

Any one have any pics of partial disassembly, like with the plenum unbolted yet with hoses still connected?
