Got my June 2006 edition of Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-road Magazine, which had several features of interest.

One was on page 112, "The Best 4x4's on Earth", where Jerrod Jones lists his favorite 4x4's, noting some truck history and miscellaneous tidbits about the rigs, basically explaining why he thinks they are among the best ever.

So, lo and behold, there's a '98 Isuzu Trooper on the list!
He lists the merits, including four-linked coil rear suspension, beefy D44 rear with "9.61-inch ring gear (that's bigger than a Dana 60, folks!" and 1.5-inch axleshafts.

Nice to see some Isuzu kudos from the boys at Petersen's.

That's funny, because the Trooper never had Dana rear ends
in them nor are they 4 link setups. They have Isuzu rear ends and 5 link suspension setups.
It's good to see Isuzu getting some Kudo's, but it's funny
how the people who write about the vehicles don't
know much about them.

Correction, he says a "lot of'em" are sporting D44s. But he states it correctly about the trooper ...

what an axle ... it's an Isuzu-derived part, and sports a 9.61-inch ring gear ...

Now not sure on specs, but he DID get it correct that it is an Isuzu axle.

Body Damage is Cool
Did anyone note the yellow vehicross on the page about the IFS rebuild? Its down on the left hand bottom corner on page 74.

Also, they list INDY4x, and 4x4isuzu.com (?) as parts salvage guys....oh, and the letter in the tech section....and of course that 98 trooper.

There was also another thread where this was posted a couple of days ago, and i tried to find it after i got my magazine this afternoon, but i couldnt find it.
I already sent in my Good Job! letter, but i doubt it will do any good. I would bet money that there wont be an Isuzu in the next months issue.

Hmmm...I thought I copied the correct part verbatim...oh well, you get my drift...and yes, reading the other sections of the mag later, I did see the yellow VX on page 74, and the reference to Isuzu used parts sources on page 50.

That is Swordy's VX...........it's good to note that if you go to events....like Rock Crawling comps (where magazine types would be to cover them) and take your Built up whatever (isuzu, etc) that there is a MUCH higher chance that someone will notice IT and ask you about IT.

this is not an accident....nor did they go looking for swordy.....they happened to be at the same place at the same time

point? ............less whining on the internet about Isuzu coverage and more "getting out there" and supporting the sport of off-road as a whole

:cough: :cough: you might want to check that again.

i believe he was saying that "many" isuzu's (in general [meaning rodeos] ) had rear D44's

Troopers have 3 link rears with a track bar ( making it a total of 4 links)

rodeos and amigos have a more triangulated 4 link with a rear track bar making it 5 links total

overall pretty cool.........i got a few mentions in this issue and i have a couple up coming things lined up with them for up coming issues.

I didn't read the actual article. My comment about
the Dana's were based on the initial post, which said
Troopers; nothing about Rodeo's. Even in my post, I
specified Troopers... which never have had Dana's.

You are correct on the suspension.
I got my Rodeo and Trooper suspension mixed up.
The Trooper is a 3 link and the Rodeos are 5.... which
still shows the author (if that's what he said... base on
the initial post) to be wrong.

litnin .....right on......i see what you mean

besides when i spoke to Jarred (after the fact) i told him he was a little jumbled up on his tech.

good effort, but a swing and a miss. He said it was too late as it was already on it's way to print. From our conversation, it sounds like they are interested in including more isuze stuff in the future.
