Getting the Wheeling Fever
I bought the rebuild kit that includes the wheel bearings from Martin. I figure I'll just replace the bearings whether they are needed or not since I'll have it apart already.

I've got a buddy that's done this a time or two that will help me out if I get in a pinch.

Thanks guys!

This will help out A LOT!

One word of advice. Dont throw anything out until you have it all back together. I threw away the half moon metal parts on the back of the knuckle by the wipers, thinking that the kit came with new ones, but it diddnt and I had to buy new ones from the dealer.

This is the axle seal, it is the one that is leaking. There is one per side.. You do not have to pull the third member to get to it. Just a complete teardown of the knuckles.

Who has a good method of re-installing this seal? I was tapping mine in last night with the wooden handle of my hammer, and the seal just crumpled up and I have to buy a new one now. Any tips/tools/etc. to make it go in easy?

I used a socket that was the same diameter as the seal. Carefully tapped it in, and it was fine.

Or this from HF

Either go to Harbor Freight and get their seal install set or you can make one from PVC pipe and a PVC coupler.

Adam & OOPS, thanks for the info.

The PVC is a good idea, and I'm pretty sure I already have the necessary pieces around here somewhere.

It was the one I made for the rear axle seals and for some reason I blacked it out in that picture. Why I blacked it out is a mystery to me!!!!!

Sure it is....I think it's really the " seal intstall tool making elf" that you blacked out, so we would all think that YOU made it....

I'll have to make one of those. I used a socket with an extension...

See, look....I went in and, with my amazing black bar removal skills, found what was underneath. Just as I suspected..... the seal install tool making elf....
