So after getting my chain finally fixed right (did it myself) and driving my truck for a week, I decided that the oil leak that I had was too much and that I felt comfortable enough to try to do it again and this time get the gasket between my head and TC cover right. Last time it got bunched up and caused an enormous leak.

I thought I could do it again w / no problems. I should have known...

I got it put back together, pulled the plug wires, turned it over until I got pressure. Now... this took a lot longer than last time.

Once I finally got pressure, I started her up. My wife noticed a "waterfall" of oil coming from the passenger side. I thought it was the oil filter on loose or just bad, so I got a new one and put it on, fired it up. No dice, same problem. Oil just gushing out on Passenger side.

Here's what I did different this time. I used that tacky gasket stuff that is supposed to hold your gasket to your cover when you install it. I noticed some had squeezed out when I torqued everything down .

I also put a bolt in the hole below the DS water pipe that the mechanic before thought was extra parts. The bolt fit in finger tight.

would the sticky gasket stuff have possibly clogged an oil passage, forcing oil out somewhere else? Anybody got a guess as to where it could have comeout? It was just gushing alongside the oil pan on Passenger side... I am really nervous about this.

If i did clog something up, would it bust the block working its way out?

Thanks...

Perhaps the oil pressure relief valve on top of the oil pump? It's located more on the passenger side. It's gotta be obvious if it's that much.

When I took my oil pump off this time, I did not remove the relief valve as I did before. Last time i did this I lost the spring to it and had to order another one.

No, the oil was "running" along the oil pan area. It was hard to tell where it was coming from. I guess I will have to burn another day tomorrow and tear it down again and pray that I haven't permanantly broken anything.

Anybody have any experience with the oil pressure sending unit? I believe the FSM says it is on that side. I am going to check that in a few. Perhaps it has blown out the side?

This morning I pulled the radiator, valve cover, distributor and PS. When I took the A/C off, I noticed that the bottom left hand bolt was very, very loose. This is the 14mm bolt that goes through the AC, through the cover into the block. Anybody think that this might be the culprit? The bolt did have oil all over it...

Here's the question. Should I tear it down and have a look or bolt e-thing back up and hope for the best?

depends on you and what you gambling tolerances are....

i bet you're right on that the loose bolt is the source, but it could be the whole timing chain gasket on the pass side got mis aligned...or just the bolt loose...i wonder what kind of seal you'll be able to get on the back side now that oil has pushed past the silicone and mabe made little channels(?)....i say just torque it down and maybe you luck out with no leak or just a small drip...interested to hear how you do.

Here's the result. Since I was only an hour away from taking the cover off and putting it all back together right and knowing for sure, that's what I did. Not that I didn't do some stupid stuff. When I first tried to fire her up, I had the distributor out 180. So, I turned her over to the next TDC and re-installed my distributor. Give you 2 guesses as to what I did... yep... started her right back with the ratchet on the crank bolt. It actually removed the crank bolt for me!!! Anyway, repaired that, got e-thing tightened up... and thank the Big Man Upstairs, no leaks! Well, save for the crappy oil pan gasket which must be replaced... Someday!!

Here's what happened though. The bottom bolt on the passenger side was barely finger tight. The oil pump squirts oil very close by, which is why oil was squirting through that passage. I was way worried! So, yes, a a loose lower passenger side AC bolt *will* cause oil to gush out.

Did you take the oil pan off and clean it out? If the timing chain guides were shreaded, they can block your oil sump. I am guessing that the leaking oil pan gasket means that it has not been cleaned?

the shop that did the job the *first* time was supposed to do this, but I have yet to verify. I drive my truck 3-4 miles per day, I should be okay for a little while. Dropping the pan is "on the list"

hey, I am just happy that I can drive it !

Take my advice: DROP YOUR OIL PAN ASAP!!! YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I can't stress how important this is, not doing this is what killed an engine that had just had the TC replaced in about 1 week!!!!!!!!!
