I'm working on intalling rear lift shackles on my 89 excab 4x4 and having a very tough time getting the shackle bolts to break free from the spring-eye bushings so that I can remove the old shackles. Any tips? I've hit it, pried it, heated it. Am I going to have to cut these things off?? Any help would be great. Thanks!
89 xcab 4x4 22re. 1.5" BJ spacers, 3" shackle and AAL + fender trim. 33x12.5 R15 MT/Rs, 15x10 rockcrawler streetlocks. 488 yukons by ZUK, detroit rear and true-trac front. 2 1/4" cat-back exhaust. Redline gear oil. Rear bumper by bentup.com.

I replaced my fronts which came with new bolts but I believe the stockers have the bolts as part of one side of the shackle. I thought it was weird at the time but didn't think too much about it because I was replacing them with new. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I guess I'll just cut the damn things off... might have to burn the bushings out though even if I get the shackles off. Every project always takes twice as long and ends up costing 3 times as much as expected, doesn't it!! Wouldn't be exciting if it didn't, I suppose. Thanks again.

MAPP gas and torch those puppies. Actually a 1/4 drill bit should help ream them out.

Thanks for the tips. I tried using a puller to force the bolt through, but that was a no go so ended up just cutting the bolts and removing the entire leaf pack. I'll take it to a spring shop nearby on monday and have them press out the old bushings. There probably is a simper way but I was struggling and hate making no progress. Oh well, the end result will be worth it. Thanks again!
