Yeah there are some very thin spacers that go on the end of the shaft before the c-clip goes on. I don't think I even have mine any more and AFAIK it doesn't hurt to NOT have them. There should not be very much of a gap, even without the spacers. Just a few thousndths. Any more than that and I'd guess something is not installed correctly.
