Getting the Wheeling Fever
I found a set of Aisin hubs on a diesel MU at a local junkyard, nice place, self serve, no hassel.... The lady keeping shop couldn't give me a cost for them so I'm going back tomorrow when "Tommy" is there to make the call. It was close to closing time and I had no tools on me.

Anyway, if the price is right I'm going to take them. What parts should I take from the truck aside from the Aisins themselves? Are there any shims/spacers on the axle I need to grab while I am there?

I hope the price is good and the bolts are not too sticky!

If you can get the shims, it would be insurance incase
you need them. BUT, just because that truck has shims
does not mean yours will need them OR your truck might
need more.

The gap or play between the clip is only supposed to be
0.005", I think... I'd have to look it up.
The shims come in 0.005, 0.010, 0.020, and 0.030.
Your truck might not require any shims or it might require
a couple... each truck will be slightly different.

Ok, I have feeler guages for measure the play (if they fit in there). Though I am still a little cloudy on where the play should be.

Where exactly do the shims go when I install them (if they were needed?). I've read through the common sites posted for reference, but I'm still unclear.

The hubs on the MU are in pretty good shape as far as I could tell by turning the dial. They had the usual scuffed/sun faded finish most all Aisin hubs have. It is a "firm smooth" with just a little catch the last 1/8-1/4" before LOCK and FREE. I planning to go through and rebuild them anyway. If they're in good shape, they'll just be in better shape.

Body Damage is Cool
Shims go between the hub and the C clip on the end of the shaft.

Bleh... I went to the yard, just got back. Talked to Tommy and he said "Oh, its expensive. 5,000 for both hubs". As I was fixing to say, "Ok", he says "But I don't sell hubs byself. Must take whole hub assembly. Ahh 8,000 for both sides". GRRR "Hmm, let me think about it"

I have no use for extra rotors, knuckles or calipers. And I didn't have 8,000 on me. 5 ok, 6ok, 7..ehh, 8, no. I think its a good price for that stuff, but....

So I have to think about it. Maybe chat with the spousal unit. The hubs are the right price, its the extras that muff up the deal.

The upside of my morning jaunt is I was finally able to get rid of those pesky running boards taking up space in my garage. I loaded them up just in case. Tommy didn't say no to that

And out of fear of seeing a big nut on the spindke after removing the cover, I pulled mine off when I got home. All is well, no big nut in there. Just a little snap ring, which encouraged me to run to the store and buy new snap ring pliers. I really shouldn't left with so much time and some money on my hands, the house goes to pot

either way i think it's a good price. works out to about 43 bucks for just the hubs and 68 for everything. (I happened to be checking out currency exchange rates earlier) I got some for 50+ship for a pair and people sell them for up to 100 bucks or so just for the hubs. offer him 6500 or so or even give tommy the 8000y and let him keep the parts you don't need. of course, giving him/selling him the auto hubs off yours gives him a complete front again and he's not out anything.

if you can find more and are able to get just the hubs, sell 'em here or ebay and make a couple bucks. There's a guy (his username evades me) stationed in Japan that regularly sells 4x stuff here and ebay.

Yeah, I don't mind picking parts and shipping. And these are a very good price. However, there is some regulation as to how I can and cannot use the Post Office here on base. I'm still trying to find the regs. I has something to do with using the facility for my profit.

Otherwise I would have already gotten setup to pull parts and ship. I don't know what hot items are needed back in the States, but it'd be real easy to get them now that I'm finding my way into the system here.

I'm still thinking about it. I talked to hubby and he says the price is good and its my call. I'll sleep on it. I'm weighing "I can" and "Should I"

I looked him up, the guy's username is CDUFF7, Chris, USN. Send him a PM and ask him what he does to ship things back to the states.
