YOu are correct. My trooper is a 95.5 LS w/ SOHC.

Also, 96 is when the coil om plug began.

The pre-98 SOHC/DOHC 3.2L are almost the same engine. In fact you can swap the heads and "convert" a SOHC to DOHC rather easily if you care to, according to Jerry Lemond.

The SOHC has the lifter tick sometimes, but it is not harmful, just noisy. I guess I wouldn't limit myself to the DOHC just because of that.

really???? Has anyone on here attempted this by chance? I searched and couldn't find anything. I'm usually pretty good about finding what I want on it, but i couldn't turn anything up. Any info would be awesome, I might end up doing this cause that darn lifter just annoys the hell out of me . I've had too many vehicles that knock and although I know it's just the lifter ticking, it still pisses me off to no end. Thanks and keep wheelin'

If you are not in a hurry 93 RS's turn up on traderonline every month two. If you need to get into something quick, the 93 RS is not for you. I wasn't even shopping for one when I bought mine. It was a right place (ebay) right time (I had money) right price (cheap) deal.

Good Luck
Michael

I don't really need to get one anytime real soon, Looking to be into a Troop by mid-June. I may be willing to wait for an RS to come my way (although I was searching autotrader last night and found a sweet '88 2 door LS that was very well taken care of, and I also found a '93 LS 5-speed DOHC) I'll keep looking but i may be tempted to go with a older one.

HAVE 3 OF THEM RUNING RIGHT NOW AND THEY RUN MUCH BETTER AT LOW RPM THAN THE REAL DOHC SET UP, WITH THE DUAL INTAKE RUNNERS,, JUST INSTALL A COMPLETE 3.2 DOHC CYL HEAD ASSY AND USE YOUR INTAKE SYSTEM , EX, BOLTS RIGHT UP AND SO DOES THE TOP END , YOU WILL NEED THE T BELT AND THE TENSIONER FOR THE DOHC ENG , NO WIRING CHANGES AT ALL THE TOP END DOESN,T KNOW WHAT IS ON THE BOTOM END , NEITHER THE ECM, IT RUNS FINE AND WILL EASILY PASS ANY EMMISSION TEST , WILL RUN ALLMOST AS GOOD AS THE NEWER 3.5 AND WILL RUN AWAY FROM THE NEWER 3.2 , BY USING THE SOHC MANIFOLD ON THE TOP YOU IN EFFET MOVE THE TORQUE CURVE DOWN CLOSER TO 34=35 00 RPM INSTEAD OF THE 3800 TO 4 K IT IS QUITE NOTICE ABLE 95 HEADS ARE THE LATEST YOU CAN USE THE 98 AND LATER HEADS WON,T FIT YOUR BLOCK JERRY

Jerry I must say your are a wealth of knowledge, i don't know what we'd do if you weren't here.

I'll keep that in mind about using DOHC heads on a SOHC, that right there may just sway me on what engine i go for. Thanks
