The Bull Bar was an 85 model that I got from Andy Zook, but as you know Brian they are not compatible with dropped spring hangers. I am not really satisfied with the mounting, but there isn't much to work with on the front of the frame! I added gussets everywhere I could and welding it in numerous locations directly to the spring hanger and the front of the frame, time will tell if it holds up in a hard pull...

The two ways I've done it in the past:
cut off all of the mounting points on the ARB, leaving just the down-braces so they sit flush with the frame. Drilled those in 3 places on each side, welded up some mounting points on the front crossmember/dropped hanger (braced for side loading, of course) and bolted 'er on. That was on the white truck.

On the 4Runner, the PO cut off all of the mounting that interfered w/ the hanger and welded two braces that connected to the drop hanger spring-bolts. Worked great, until it pulled the drop hanger hard enough to crack the frame and pull the front crossmember away. We used FRORF's front x-member brace and dropped hanger (moved 1/4" forward to match the brace, and braced behind) then rebuilt the entire ARB mounting model. i did use the PO's idea of the front spring bolts, but now that they are much closer to the frame and better braced, I'm hoping it's not an issue. And, it almost looks stock now. Unfortunately, like yours, I'm sure, I lost a lot of mounting points in the process.

I really like the look of the 84-85 ARB's. Much nicer than the 86+.

now go polish that engine - we want pics!

Harry, great to see your truck on the trail at last. Yeah, it has been one of the longest buildups.

Hadn't visited here in some time and just happened to see your post.

Oh, and welcome back home.

I think Drew may still have you on the slow-speed record, but I'm happy to hand the runner-up ribbon to someone else for glacial speed best captured by time-lapse photographs.

Congrats for getting it running, now we need to go wheeling!

Well if you didn't break anything last weekend you should come up this weekend to Reno and we will run those trails out by my parents' house.

Pete came up last weekend and we ran Twister out by my parents' and Budweiser. Pete made it up the waterfall unassisted but we did have to stack a few rocks.

I had a lot of trail carnage this year at the Hammers compared to years past...
I tore off a valve stem and actually had to stop and fix it on the trail!
(never did anything bad enough in the past to have to stop )

I'm good to go!!!

I've just about got everything fixed from that last trip to Reno. Those trails are nasty in the rain. Let's see, bent front spring, dinged drive shafts (both), a valve stem (just trying to keep up with the Beebs)and a power steering pump(probably not trail related).

Luckily I got free shipping from Jim at Inchworm on the springs (I went and picked them up) and I was able to fix the PS pump with a rebuild / seal kit.

High Rock Canyon in May and Rubithon in June, here's to no more down time for all of us.

Erik B came up this weekend and we ran a couple of canyons on Sunday. I didn't take my truck out for the first one because I was shooting photos, but in the evening we took a run up a very difficult local canyon (Billy Bobs). I believe that Erik has photos, we both made it through rather quickly (only two rigs, both on 37s) and only suffered a little sheetmetal damage. The truck is working great!

Harry, glad to hear the rig is working great for you. Did you get that BOV issue settled yet? Just curious...everyone else on here is a suspension nut, but me, I'm a motor guy...

Hey Jeff. I have been lazy and haven't done anything but drive it. I am in the process of moving (again) to Albuquerque and trying to clean out my house and find a renter. The wheeling trip was just to get my fix. I have the piping I need and plan on removing the BOV for the time being, I am only running 9 psi of boost anyway. The shop ended up just using the HKS F-CON, so the SMT-6 is not even installed. It runs decent but I need to get the BOV issue worked out before I can do any further fine tuning. There were some vacuum hoses that were hooked up wrong and other issues that were keeping it from running right before that the shop took care of.
