It is running OK, about as good as a stock 22RTE but not nearly as good as I would hope. There are no glaring fuel issues with the SMT-6 installed, although the idle is a little rough. The biggest problem is that the motor builds up to about 6 psi and then around 3k I can hear the BOV purge and then the engine falls flat on its face. It wasn't an issue on the trail at all since I used gearing more than throttle, but on the street it is disappointing.

The engine has .030 over forged pistons, a DOA cam, Jeff's old T3/T4 turbo, 370 cc/m injectors, custom 2 1/2" to 3" exhaust, custom top mount intercooler, and a late model intake manifold.

Hmmm...sounds like a bad BOV. Have you tried disconnecting the sensor line? I forget which sort of BOV/purge valve you are using, but at 6 psi you can run without one without too much fear.

I think that it may be bad too. It is a used 1st Gen Eclipse one that I got off of eBay. I may remove it and use a block off plate or I could swap the one from my car. I suppose that disconnecting the sensor line would be the easiest thing to try.

are you purging to atmosphere or recycling the BOV waste back to the hose between the AFM and the turbo?

a lot of the DSM valves like the one you have blow off light and the popular fix is o stick it in a vice and crush the top down to raise the blow pressure.

I personally have had good luck with a stock toyota BOV from a supra 7mgte, it was meant for a car running about 11 psi and it pops right on cue when I let up on the throttle.

the Bosch unit in my wife's Audi a3 is nice, too. pops in an accurate and timely fashion and makes a nice little "whoosh!" noise. those you can get at any parts store for under $25.

Jeeze there is no pleasing some of you guys! Paint will be coming soon but honestly getting it running right was a higher priority.

We have high expectations.

I think we need an "underhood" pic, Harry!

Harry, you can always count on me to find SOMEthing to have fun with at your expense. By all means show us some underhood pix, I think that's where the beauty is really hiding.

Seriously, I love your truck.

Harry -
Can you post a pic of how you modified the ARB to mount w/ the dropped hanger? I'm mostly just curious - I've done it a few different ways, but they all involved a lot of ARB surgery.

This makes me think I should get my 'Runner out of "storage" soon.

There are a lot of things that aren't that pretty on the truck besides the exterior. It sat outside for six months with no hood so underhood shots are going to fall short of what you have come to expect from BoostedInline6.

The Bull Bar was an 85 model that I got from Andy Zook, but as you know Brian they are not compatible with dropped spring hangers. I am not really satisfied with the mounting, but there isn't much to work with on the front of the frame! I added gussets everywhere I could and welding it in numerous locations directly to the spring hanger and the front of the frame, time will tell if it holds up in a hard pull...
