A few questions for my 77 CJ. The other day I was poking around under the left rear corner, right underneath the taillight, and found what I would assume to be some sort of rollover valve/device/thingee (thingee is a technical term.) Does anyone know what I'm referring to? If so, what are the odds that it still works? If it doesn't work anymore, should I replace it with a new one, or just rip it out? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The YJ has a carbon canister in the passenger side rear corner. A tube comes out of the gas tank and up into the bottom of this 'thingy' and then another tube feeds out the top and goes up to the engine somewhere I think. Mine was broken and fallen inside the corner; it had ripped off the bottom part where it slips onto the tube comming from the tank. You can't buy it at the parts store if that is what it is. I just shoved it back on and clamped it best I could with what was left to grab.

I don't think they really fail a lot. Look in your manual and see if you CJ has such a device (not called "carbon canister" probably). Has to do with the emmisions system somehow. I figure if the truck runs and I don't smell gas then everything is fine.
