Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys, got a new problem with the jeep.
I left the hard top off the other day and it got rained and snowed in.(6" of snow inside jeep) Now the dang thing won't crank. Battery voltage is good, all connections to starter have been checked. I called the dealership and they told me my aftermarket anti theft electronics probably got wet. There's a small(2 1/2") slim connector mounted under my dash. I never noticed it before. Now it's showing a glowing red light that periodically blinks. Anyone run into this before?
The dealership said I'm looking at 2 to 3 hours of their shop time to remove this anti theft crap from my jeep. Funny thing is, I've owned the jeep for 18 months, and replaced the motor, and this thing's never acted up before.
(Jeep specifics: 1991 yj, 4.0L from 97 xj, 5spd)
Thanks guys.

The slim thing under your dash is where they plug the scanner into to read codes lol...your anti theft is in your column around the ignition...sometimes you can disconnect your battery for a while and it will reset itself...or you can see if there is a fuse for it and remove it...that works sometimes..

Most of those devices go to the solonoid.. It is kinda under the battery on the firewall... Look there and see if they have cut a soft GREEN wire.. or any other for that matter.. Then they wire into both ends of the wire. Take their wires off and wire the green (or whatever) back to gether again and it should start.

Sorry Tikitgv, a 91 is OBD1 with the scanner port under the hood. There is a "security card" thing under the steering wheel you might be referring to...

I would just let it dry out some more and wiggle all the connections under the dash and see if that fixes it.

Thanks sunder, You nailed it.
I dried it out overnight, and wiggled the wires, and she fired right up. Now I just have to trace the wires and get this damned thing OUT of my jeep.
Thanks again guys. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
