Searching Google, Searching the Forums, nothing!

Has anyone succesfully installed a York Compressor in a Trooper w/ a 2.6l? Im having a hard time fitting mine in the engine bay and creating an adjustable bracket.

I believe that Michael Clark did it, but I am not sure what he removed in order to make it happen.

I got part way there on our Amigo. Unfortunately I used belt tensioners that ran on the back side of the V belt like a serpentine so the belt life is very short (like 5K miles). I don't think this would be too hard to fix by reworking the idler/tensioner pullies. And the clutch chattered even without a belt on it. I suspect the chatter is due to engine vibration/harmonics. It was suggested that I use a rubber insulator like a piece of old tire to see if the chatter disappeared or at least diminished enough to make it usable. The P/S pump got moved to the driver's side to make room, and a custom hose made, along with bracketry to mount the whole mess and customising the compressor clutch assembly to get that extra 1/4" or so of clearance that you need.

Shameless plug: Hey, the whole motor is for sale including the brackets for the York setup if you want to come get it! :-)

Haha thanks for the plug, already emailed you about it.

I figured it would have problems with vibration, but I have the rubber dampers used on the Mercedez I pulled it from.

Im TRYING to get it done without removing/relocating components. I would like to just replace the air pump with it, but my Header gets in the way. Any pictures of Michael Clarks setup?

Unless he changed it, Mike Clark used his A/C compressor and converted to an air compressor. He just used the stock A/C location if I remember correctly... Of course, I could be wa-rong! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, like Sweater said, i do have(had) a York installed for about 3 years in my truck. I removed it before I started all my SAS work, to rebuild the compressor, however, and have not reinstalled it yet. I do not have any pictures of the install

I dont recommend or endorse doing it thisway, but it works really well haha.

Remove factory air injection pump, Cut two brackets out of 1.5 inch 90* angle iron, that will fit in front of and behind the factory bracket that is in there. Bolt them to the bottom of the compressor. Then there is a piece of quarter inch strap that is bolted to the side holes on teh compressor and attached to the small stud that is close to the block on the Original air injection pump bracket..

and so on... haha im sure that makes no sense.. It only took me about an hour to make the brackets and get the belts all lined up.. It works really well, with the 2.5 gallon VIAR tank under the bed. I will get some pictures tomorrow of Tuesday for you to look at of the brackets and stuff.
Peace

Joel

Id love to relocate it there...But I cannot do without my Air Pump unless I plan on swapping it back in come Inspection time. We arent as strict as other places, but every 4 years I have to go through the station, and without it, I will be screwed. Plus my rig is a backup for street driving/search and rescue/whatever so it needs to be street legal...

Dang..So no one else has put it in spot of the OEM AC Compressor..

We have Emissions every two years here. My buddy is an Emissions inspector, and we ran my truck without the smog pump and it actually passed no problem, and that is with a High FLow cat and Calmini header to let everything breath.

There is another option for on board air though, that i am going to use in conjunction with my York, for crazy CFM of air.

these work really well and are cheap I bought the last 6 that the local Pepboys had. They were only 60 bucks each, and they pump out some serious air. My plan is to run 2 of them along with my York. Only down fall is the amp draw of 30amps at full load each.
