Getting the Wheeling Fever
My 2000 WJ has trashed rear Axle bearings.
3.55 Dana 35c open (Spicer# 606005-1) w/ABS & Discs

Would a D44 from a 2000/2001 WJ limited be a direct swap?
I know the only part# that matches w/o changing gears is the 606061-1 (hydra lok) per the Dana parts manual.

Is this a direct swap w/o welding or replacing the driveshaft?? Will it be tough to find a junked unit.

I just want to swap out the old unit and replace with this beefier piece. Do all the mount points line up?

Gadzooks! I have never seen so much brass, even pieces of bearing lining... It was almost art! Its still on the road but only local driving. This is the wifes car and will not see any off-roading... Just winter snow & some beach action in NY.

Any help would be great... What price seems reasonable for a 40k mi junker?
Also, how is the Hydra Lok compared to track Lok? No reason for a locker based on the driving this will see. Truck is a 4.0 Laredo 4x4 w/ABS

The brackets should be in the right place. The d44 is a bigger axle, so the driveshaft might need shortening. Luckily most driveshaft shops will do it for about 50$

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does anyone know of a good Axle / Driveshaft shop on Long Island NY, (not exactly 4x4 Country)

$1200 seems way too steep for a Used D35C and perhaps I could have them put in the D44 & cut the driveshaft...

Any suggestions appreciated

If not, How long should this take (w/ air tools) just an estimate and will I need a second set of hands?

1200$ is WAY too much, you can probably get one for free with shipping from SD. I can get one from a junk yard in nipomo for about 120$...
