I happen to have a collection of pinion flanges from various sources, and I noticed a couple of strange things I thought I'd share.

I'm collecting flanges to use on the outputs of my Dana 300 T-case for my trans swap, so I was looking for a couple from Rodeo D44s. I assumed that the 1st and 2nd gens would be the same. Not so.

The 1st gen D44 pinion = 27-spline
The 2nd gen D44 pinion = 30-spline

The bolt pattern is also different

Tad and Joe happened to pull the flange off the odd-ball 10-bolt 3rd member (W/ Dana gears) and try it on the D300 output shaft (27 spl). It fits perfect. I didn't think anything of it till I pulled the flange off the stock 3rd from my passport, assuming it would work. My pinion is 13-spline

You can see the difference in shape, and it appears that the flange on my '98 4.77 3rd member matches the odd-ball. They had the same bolt pattern, which is also the same as the 1st gen D44.
