Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys, I am about to purchase an 86/7 mini motorhome. It has the standard 22RE eng with an auto. Dual rear wheels and is a 20 footer. Anyone have an idea if this engine has the capability of pull a smaller utility trailer w/450cc motorcycle ? It seems that it has about all it can do on the hills by itself. Its a low mileage unit 39,000 but if it cant pull the trailer ( occasionally )its not what I want.

I guess it depends on how many of the 3 gears you want to use while towing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> You might be ok in 1st or 2nd. I'd look into an extra tranny cooler for sure: http://www.importperformancetrans.com/coolers.shtml

They are so horribly overloaded by the camper shell that the minute level of weight increase from the little trailer will not matter and probably will not be felt.

Drive this unit in the first place to see if you can stand how horribly it drives.

Oh man these things are awesome (if it's the same as this). These are from Brian894x4's site:

From the site: "Ken Trinder sent in these pictures of his very clean 1987 Toyota SR5 4x4 pick-up. It was modified with a camper added by Bonaza Coach,
out of Indiana. The roof tilts up for a full height ceiling and it sleeps 4 adults. Ken rebuilt the interior to his liking. He currently uses
it for surfing down in Cape Hatteras North Carolina. A very and nicely built Toyota 4x4 camper."

I have actually seen this a few times when I was down at the outer banks. I almost wrecked the first time. I want it. I think it's a turbo, but it's probably still a pig. But who cares? The cool factor!

I think this is what he's talking about. [Linked Image]

They were/are made under a few names but I think the most popular model was known as "Dolphin". I have a Friend who had a newer v6 model and he said it was fine for two people who did not have to tow.

Happy Trails

That's such crap. People go out to the point with campers on their truck and stay for days and the rangers don't hassle them.

I've never gotten in trouble for sleeping in my truck or under the stars out on the beach, but this past summer some grumpy ranger lectured one of my friends who slept on the beach with some blankets and a fire. I think as long as you don't pitch a tent, you're probably okay.

Overhang! Forgot all about the huge amount of rear overhang out behind the rear axle with those RV bodies.

No way, no how, with that kind of overhang would I pull a trailer. The amount of wagging that could induce would be catestrophic once it started.
