 does changing gears make the odometer work again

went up in tire size and for years never changed the gears. I always had to figure out how far I actually travelled as compared to what the odometer read, and also same for the speedo. But now I put in 4.88s and am wondering if now my odometer and speedo should be "on" again. With the 4.10s and 33" tires Ive been figuring that for every mile I actually travel I only register 0.75 miles , which i figured by driving 1 mile on the highway )from mile marker to mile marker) and looking at what registered on the odometer. Now ive been using this same logic with the 4.88s and calculating my mileage at about ~20 combined. If changing the gears made the odometer accuraate again my mileage is WAY worse....

My tank is 15 gallons I believe. Comes out to about 14 mpg combined. Thinking about getting rid of the MT tires and going down to 32 inches on an AT tread. 14 is just unacceptable,. it runs better than it ever has, is timed perfect ,besides the bosch oxygen sensor not sure what could be the culprit.

Nope, either 17 or 19 gallons, and I think it's 19.

hows that? 200 divided by fifteen is 13.3333. So I figured Im getting about 14 avg.

Fuel Pump: (22R) Mechanical Diaphragm; (22R-E) Electric
Fuel Pump Pressure: (22R) 2.8-4.3 psi; (22R-E) 36-38 psi
Fuel Tank Capacity: Standard Bed 13.7 gal; Long Bed & 4-Runner 17.2 gal
Fuel Grade: Unleaded fuel only. Research Octane 91 Anti-Knock Index 87 or higher
Locking Gas Cap: Stant 11591 Maybe somebody stuck a pickup tank in it?

The 1st gen 4Runners seem to have either the 17.x or 14.x gallon tank. The way to tell is by how far below the frame rail the tank hangs. The 17 gallon tank hangs about 3" below the frame, the smaller tank is about 1"-2" higher since it is that much less deep. My '85/SR5 has the 17 gallon tank, I have a buddy with an '85 base model and he only has the 14.x gallon tank.
Could also be the 17 gallon tank that is dented underneath, reducing it's volume.
