no the thermostat is simply what controls the flow of coolant. when the coolant reaches a specific temprature( most standard t-stats are at 195) the bi-metalic properties cause the spring/plunger to "open". the temp gauge on the 22re i belive is that little sensor between cylinder #2 and #3 on the intake manifold, and there is another one that sits horizontaly pointing towards the radiator on the front of the intake manifold. that one is part of the colds start circuit. right there next to that is were the cold start injector is located, almost like a 5th injector, it can be identified because there should be a line of some sort that runs from that to the fuel reail i belive.
at any rate if your motor runs in its normal range on the temp gauge and you dont have to crank and really nurse it along to get it started when it is cold and usually cold only, that should be of no worry to you.
you should be able cheak the injectors for a resitance value, just like your TPS and AFM, but im not entirely sure. i have access to an osciliscope so i can run a little more in depth diagnostics than just a resistance value.
i just got rid of the stumble in mine today. i put the exhaust on and now some times it will studder at worst but the baby revs pretty damn quick now, only it seems like the exhaust is still running hot. dotn know yet havent driven at night to be able to see.
