Timing Help #720812 05/03/06 10:39 PM

Can anyone tell me or point me in the right direction to settin the timing on my 1990 4runner. Its an auto 4x4 with a 22re. I have a haynes manual and it says to use a jumper wire while timing it. Where does the jumper go? The haynes manual seems a bit lacking in this description. Any help would be great. Thanks

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Check out the FSM that is sticky'ed at the top of the main page....

http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/ignition/5distribu.pdf
It's on page #2

Basic steps....
Warm up engine
Put a jumper wire between TE1 and E1 in the diagnostics port under the hood. It's next to the fuse box/behind the battery. In fact, there should be a sticker on the underside of your hood that shows a picture. If not, the FSM picture shows the location of the 2 terminals you are jumping.
The idle should drop down when you do this or something in wrong. I think you are looking for like 750 rpm here
Connect your timing light and shine on the timing marks.
Loosen the dist. hold down and adjust as necessary.
If necessary, drink a beer <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Thats awesome, thanks. I'll do that as soon as I get my hands on a timing light.
