hey guys.... it's getting pretty warm here in southern alberta and I want to take the top off my 4runner. I'm just wondering how heavy it is cuz I have a bad back and don't want to hurt it more than it already is It couldn't be too heavy, right its just fibreglass and a couple windows. My wife could help with one side and I on the other. AUSSiE

It's lighter than I thought it would be. 100 lbs or so,not bad for two people. These are some common mistakes.
Don't drag it across the bed rails, you'll scratch the hell out of your paint.
Don't forget to unplug the rear window wiper harness.
Don't forget to put all the bolts back in thei holes when your done. You will lose them.
It will rain two days after you take it off, I removed all the rear carpet after this happened.
The jack storage area will fill with water too.
Almost time to take it off here, two more weeks.

got the top off and sure did lessen the weight on those poor 20 yr old springs not as sharp on the bumps. took it a little further and cut out the spare tire cuz it was rusted in there with the chain crank. I'd say that took it up about a total of 1 inch.... yay! rides Great now. Just wish I could have some sort of cloud repellant now AUSSiE

If you have a garage, 4Crawler made himself up a nice little stowage system to suspend the topper from the ceiling. Easy on your back too.

Good time to get all the crud out of the sliding window channels. I soaked mine in simple green then used a power washer to get the 20 years of sand, dirt and mildew out of the gooves. Windows slide nice now.

I was actually thinking of retinting the rear windows now since it is all off and easy to remove the windows... good idea cleaning the track, will do that too. Thanks AUSSiE
