Hard to see an angle when you take the pic dead on the front.

My guess would be you've got lift (longer than stock) springs that are bagged and forcing the shackle out.

It seems you are talking about forward angle where in the picture it looks to me like they are angling to the side.

The diagrams in the directions that came with my shackles had that as a bad thing. When the leaned together it was ok, but splitting outward on both sides like that I think is a no goody. I don't really know though.

exactly. my bumper is horizontal from the front, my shackle is not vertical. follow me? now what does that mean?

No wonder it wanders! It usually means worn out bushings, it could also mean bent springs. It's a commonm side effect of lift shackles. With the longer shackles the forces on the bushings are multiplied. One reason I recommended using stock length shackles when you install your new lift.

ah i see. however these poly bushings are only 6 mo. old and as i said my factory shackles did the same thing. bent springs? that's ok i have new ones in my garage waiting for shocks in the mail. i'll try them w/ these shackles if it's still like this i'll buy some factory height ones (heavy duty, though) or is this not a good idea? i apreciate it.

The hangers could be twisted I guess, it should be easy to see if they are bent or not, they are not expensive but it's not unusual for the bolts to be a B%@$# to get out in one piece. I suppose it's possible the springs have shifted on the axle also, I wouldn't worry about it since you're changing springs soon anyway. Just make sure all the bushings are good and see how it looks when you get it together.

I own a couple of Jeeps and have installed spring lifts and aftermarket shackles on both of them. When you install longer than stock shackles you will notice that they lean outward . Yeah they look odd but c'mon, we drive Jeeps not sports cars, they do cause a little bit of bump steer but Its not that bad. Just make sure that your bushings are in good shape and you don't tighten the shackle bolts too tight. Rich

I'm not worried about the look of my suspension. i'm worried about functionality. these shackles aren't even a full inch longer than stock. they are just thicker steel. we'll see what happens with the new springs.

I thought they looked short. When you said 1" lift shackles, I assumed you meant shackles that provide 1" lift. They would have to be nearly 6" bolt hole center to center, to provide 1" lift, 3" being the stock length on CJ's of that era. At 4" yours should not be long enough to be a problem for bushings or alignment.
