QUESTION ON GAS MILEAGE? #723894 05/16/06 08:52 PM

I did a search, but didnÆt find anything on this.

IÆm curious with the gas prices if anyone is tracking their gas mileage in 22R and 22REs, especially in pickups. IÆve recorded and computed my gas mileage (yes, I used a GPS to get accurate odometer readings), almost every single tank for years. My 1986 22RE, automatic, long bed, averaged 25 MPG with a high of 28.3 MPG, on 87 octane. My 1985, 22R with 32ö tires, stock 4.10 gears, 5-speed, exhaust and DT header averaged 19 to 20 MPG, with A/C on (AZ summer) it dropped to about 17 to 18 MPG.
What are you guys experiencing? Thanks,
Gnarls.

Gnarls, was that number corrected for your 32s & 4.10s?

I am running a carbed engine, and get roughly 17mpg city this spring, and 22mpg extended driving.

When I had my '94 Pickup, I had a stock 22RE with 33x12.5 ProComp tires (I miss them), and after compensating mathematically, I ended up getting 17-18 mpg.
Low 17mpg in 4wd of the AC on.

Too close for missiles, I'm switching to guns...

'97 4Runner...SR5, 4cyl (3RZ), 5spd, 4wd, no rust, excellent shape.

I love it, this always seems to come up in the summer...
(at moment) '89 4Runner; LCE Header, 2.25", stock cam, auto tranny, stock 4.30 gears.
using 235s, ave 19 mpg. Have seen as high as 22 w/ all highway, but rare.
On 31s and compensating w/ math, ave 17.5-18.

Just changed to 32s, wil lreport MPGs as soo nas I have a whole tank gone.

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

Stock 22RE 4WD Pickup I can get up to 23MPG if I drive like there's an egg under the gas peddle. On average (amost all highway miles, I live rural), I get right around 20MPG if I keep it under 55 mph. I think I got 23.5 MPG once or twice, but when I drive like that I get tailgated a lot and I risk getting shot at or flattened by a Semi ...

My '86 straight-up carb/5-spd and stock 4.10 running gear I can get around 23 mpg piddlin' around 60 mpg. Drops to about 19 in the winter with the extra idling time (about 15-20 minutes past -25F)

Will be picking up a 99 Runner with 2.7/5spd; supposedly gets 20/23 mpg, so we'll find out; got a road trip coming up to go chase fish! Haven't checked the axle code yet, but it's sitting on stock tires at the moment.

I get about 16 average with an occasional 18 mpg on the highway with my 22RE, 5 speed, SAS, 35s and 5.29s. Plus I run at about 5000-5200lbs.
