Once I get mine all back together correctly, just yanked the egr system, I'm going to start computing the mileage.

It seems with the top off my runner I get less mpg.
I assumed taking the top off would lighten the load but it seems maybe the open back end is putting some drag resistance into the equasion.

Buying fabric to make a button on cover for the rear up to the back of the back seats to make it less resistive.
Plus a rag top to the roll bar may help.
May not.
Couldn't hurt

on another board I follow, this question was asked, and I saw post after post after post of people saying they were getting 24mpg+ and they could spin the wheels at all 4 corners in their 22R(E)s. bah!

I can spin all 4 Yodta.......... in low range on gravel.

I'm getting 19-20 with 33X10.5 BFG MT's and 4.10s (yes corrected), 5 speed 22RE. And I live at 3000 and comute over one 4000 ft pass almost everyday and about a 3rd of the time over another pass nearing 6000 ft.

Thinner air at altitude means less air. That means: less fuel used , also, because the O2 sensor is trying to maintain that 14.7 : 1 air /fuel ratio. This prolly helps mileage. However when it's burning less fuel, it's also making less power. That's not necessarily a bad thing. There's just usually a trade-off between power and economy.

I'm wishing I had a 22R about now. I'm getting 15MPG with my stock SR5 and 32x11.50's...........Is there a 3.0 to hybrid swap!!!!

Are you correction the miles for the larger tires? I'm running 32's with stock gears and an open element air fliter and 2-1/4" cat-back and I get 20 mpg in the summer and 23 on the highway with my 3.0 4Runner. My previous 1990 pickup with the 3.0 and 31's got 21/24 mpg again with a 2-1/4" cat-back as the only mod. But I've got a 5 speed and I'll throw it in neutral and coast up to red lights and stop signs. I have 2 distinct hills where I coast for an easy 1/2 mile at 45-50 mph in neutral.

I have an 89 reg cab pickup 22re manual. Engine only has a few thousand miles on a Jasper. 31" Michelin MS/LTXs, 4.56s, Everything else stock.

I have always gotten 24 mpg pure highway down to 20/21 mpg in stop-and-go driving with a lot of idling in traffic (which i hate having to drive in). The worst I ever got was 17.5 towing a 5x8' Uhaul trailer on flat interstate. Best I ever got was a one-time 27mpg going about 55 pure highway a few years back.

This sounds about what I was gettig from my 1986 22RE, automatic long bed. On my best tank recorded, I went from Phoenix to Tucson and back and drove with no A/C, no load at 55 to 60, no wind, flat highway, early fall here - low 70s, not too dry, and that tank got me 28.3, 87 octane, calculation corrected.

This is actually very good mileage. You will drop about 4 numbers in torque and HP for every 1,000 feet increase in elevation with a 22R. The 22RE will not lose quite that much.

Hey Yodta,

Yeah, I checked my odometer reading several times with my GPS. I think my calcs are probably within 1% accurate, average. Your mileage is very similar to what I was getting with my 22R, DT header and exhaust.

I also tested 87, 89, 91 octanes and can't say that I really could calculate better or worse gas mileage. In the summer months here I needed to run 89 to keep my 22R from pinging just a little. I had my ignition timing adjusted right at the top end of advance scale - about 28 degrees.

someone just made a recent post about the EGR valve and another person chimed in and said it could improve fuel economy with a working EGR system.

I should point out that my EGR system has been disabled (removed & capped where applicable) which may be affecting my fuel economy.

in addition, I understand that the EGR system provides a cooling effect, as well, which may also be why I need to run premium fuel all the time, or else.

You can't make a general statement like that. You have no idea of the emissions output of my vehicle. My Weber is well tuned and I still have a cat in place where others don't.

As for the legality, sitting behind the computer in your New Jersey home, show me Virginia code. Do you have emissions testing in NJ? We don't here. This vehicle has passed the visual state inspection for 5 years now without comment, which is all that is required, so without concrete numbers or firsthand knowledge of my setup...

I suppose no EGR system is okay on your Camaro...
oht, why's that? because EGR wasn't around back then?
