So, I've had this noise in my W56 tranny for a year or so now. Sounds like an imput shaft bearing as it's a bearing/rattling noise that is only heard in 1,2,3 and 5 gear. Not 4th. A local tranny shop put a new bearing kit in this thing about 3 years and 15,000 miles ago, so I don't understand why it would be going out now.

The tranny shop confirmed the noise sounds like a bearing, but they called it a balancer shaft bearing. Is that the same as imput shaft? They also said I shouldn't worry about it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> That it will not cause me to get stranded anywhere and will just get louder and louder. Hmmm, since I travel to extremely remote areas, the last thing I need is my tranny siezing on me. What do you guys think? I changed the oil and it was a little gray, but no visible silver in the tranny/t-case oil.
