This is a redo thanks to the hackers

A folow up to
Noise dampening with roofing materials

I installed peel n seal the other day

[Linked Image]

Got it a LOWES for under 15 dolla for a roll of 6" BY 25'
It's got a foil face and an asphalt type sticking surface

[Linked Image]

It was about 90 degrees when I did the flooring. It's super sticky! I recomend gloves, a fresh razor and some cleaning solution. I used acetone.

[Linked Image]

I have all the carpet and insultion already srtipped out of the truck from previous incidents. Puled the seats and amps, washed with hose and then wiped down with the acetone.

[Linked Image]

Super easy to apply. Just peel the release backing set in place and press down. The slippery of the gloves really helped this part.
Have to make sure it's dry and dust and dirt free too.

[Linked Image]

Just wanted to get under everything cuz the rest will be easy.

[Linked Image]

I've noticed that it really helped and I can also tell where I need the rest to be placed.
The rear of the truck, all the way back, is really noisy now in comparison. That is also stripped of insulation but has the rubber mat over it.

It has also helped with the heat the comes up from the driveshft hump on the hot days. It still is warm but a layer of padding plus the carpet should insulate that and put an end to that. I have the old carpet kit that I can take in and out.

These are the specs from the package

The next morning I did a door and the rest of the front floor.

It was only about 75 cuz the weather had changed. It was way stiffer nd a bit hrder to form as well as stick.

I also did the driver door

[Linked Image]

Wiped it all down with acetone then stuck just two long strips on the inside of the door skin

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

All around the speaker hole and in a few spots both inside and outside on the inner frame panel.

[Linked Image]

Oh man what a difference!!!!
The door has a nice luxury car sound to it. Nice dull thud instead of the tinny rattle.
This helped more then the flooring did
plus I only did one door untill it warms back up.

The sound from that speaker is greatly improved too.

in retrospect,
i would recomend doing the doors and quarter panelsbefore theflooring because once I looked closer at what was there ,
Toyota already installed a few mats of sound prevention on the front and backseat flooring. But not under the seats or tranny hump.

It all helps but i think those large empty spaces on the sides cause the majority of the noise.

The truck sounds like what it does when i'm packed up to go camping. It sounds "heavy"
Because the only time it is qwuiet is when it's all loaded up.

I'm goint to price insulation, or carpet padding as suggested in the original post linked above for the far back of the truck then try some peel n seal if that doesnt do the trick. If I remeber correctly there is some noise dampening on the floor back there too. Iknow I'll be doing the inside of the quarter panels and around my subs too.

I'll keep updating.

Plus i'm going to check on the rain and ice guard.
Looks the same except doesnt have a foil backing but comes in a 200 sq ft roll for $100. Cheaper but way too much material. Good to split between three people though. I've read at the Grace site that they also make rain and ice strips that are about 1 foot wide. Havent found those yet.

Now, wait until you remove part of your headliner and do the Roof!!!

You won't know it's hailing!!

Gotta keep your eyes on the rear-view too. You won't hear emergency vehicle sirens until there on top of you.

I don't know....Emergency vehicles in California have REAL sirens. In Phoenix, all the sirens are way too quiet!

I originally asked for a report on smell and heat causing the tar to drip, and to see if the panels melt off.

I am going to use a closed call foam with PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) on one side. It isnt very thick, but it was cheap and seems like it would help without being too heavy.

If you have an extended cab, try this one. I went to wall mart and bought the 4- 1" foam seat cusion pads from the fabric area. I installed it behind the beack seat board. It was very easy to install and the noise cancelling was unbelievable, and it was only 7 bucks.

Oh yeah forgot to readd that (the last thread disappeared this weekend)

Put the top on saturday and I didn't notice any smell. Had a couple "regulars" ride with me this weekend Who are hot rodders, and was sharing the whole project with them, They didn't notice an oder either. Will probably be sharing the larger roll of stuff with them

It's been cold the last few days so as far as sticking, so far so good.

It was high nineties the day after i did the floor and hump and I kept checking the exposed layers, felt where it got the hottest normally, and the stuff barely softened up, wasn't oozing out the seams.

Considering it's for roof aplications it should be peachy

I'm gonna check those wal mart pads tomorrow. 4-1" seat cussions were how big in area? Plus adhesive? or was that already on there.

12sq feet of peel-n-seal $14- open,cut,peel, stick

I used the Peel & Seal asphalt (let's hope we never have a fire) on the doors of my Talon just last week. Much cheaper than the Dynamat. I lined inside of both outer and inner skin. After making fine adjustments to glass the doors snap shut with the thud of a Audi S8. I doubt seriously if I'll pull the headliner down but eventually I'll get to the back and floor.

I didint use adhesive for teh wal mart pads. THe back seat pad is holding them in. It is a tight enough compression that you wouldn't need it. They are 12 x 12 squares , maybe 16 by 16. Either way, you have to cut them here and there to get them to fit. That wal mart stuff is open cell.
Th closed cell foam I got from Hanna Rubber in Kansas City. THey will put PSA on anything. They have a machine that applies it and you just pay a little extra for the application.
