Today saw a '58 Chevy Implala 348 Tri-Power leave the shop with a fresh engine, rebuilt 700R4 and a rebuilt posi-traction rear end.... a beautiful red car.

Saw one of those sell on Barret-Jackson last night. I hate that block in both the 348 and the 409. Blow up earlies, and it won't breathe.

It sure is hard to find time to get any work done, but today was worthwhile. The filter housing is now mounted on the driver side.

Welded and drilled some tabs on the 3" aluminum elbow used for the air inlet from the inner fender:
[Linked Image]
Mounted it in the previously cut hole in the inner fender:
[Linked Image]
Final bracket work was done for the inner fender fitment - used the vibration grommet mounts from the OE mounts:
[Linked Image]
I'm really pleased that I could get it to fit without having to move the coolant reservoir to the passenger side.... it's tight, but it works and the filter can be changed with no more effort than the OE setup:
[Linked Image]
Either that's a lot more work than it appears - or I'm really slow..... took 8 hours on this including hardware store runs.

Getting closer on the other parts.... studs for the blower plate not yet arrived.... a few other details - should make some more progress by next week, but then I have to send the incorrect blower back to Magnacharger and have them build another per my spec. Someday this thing might even run.

Frank, WHEN this thing is done, I think you should take it on the road...sort of a "Frank's Supercharged Raider National Tour". I'd pay to see it.

Nice work, man.

...and it only took you eight hours?

Compared to the amount of time it'd have take me, eight hours is very reasonable.

What did the blower company say about the nose drive being too long? Are they replacing the whole thing or just the front part?

Thanks, fellas -

Ed -

I suggested that I keep the original nose drive and swap it onto the new housing, but they wouldn't warranty it that way because they didn't know the condition of the bearings and gears on the try unit they sent to me - can't say I blame them. Anyway, we agreed that when I was completely finished with the prototype, I would send back the incorrect new MP62, along with the MP45 and MP62 mule cases and the original nose drive.... and they'll copy the original nose drive and put it on a new MP62 with a full warranty... suits me fine - just wish they'd pay a little more attention to order specs and not cost me so much time. Otherwise, they've been very helpful and have treated me very fairly.

Some parts are now finished -

Here's the discharge plenum - still need to do a wee bit of grinding for port runner alignment:

Blower plate:

Inlet pipe - didn't come out as well as I'd like, but I'll try it as is:

Combo bracket for the coil and oil fill:

Now to mount it all on the mule engine and see how it fits together.... stay tuned.

Fuel rail (w/o injectors) and blower plenum mounted with Allen socket head screws - still need the two longer screws for the ends:

Blower mounted on the top plate:

It all fits so far:

I think I can handle the coolant and CCV hoses with clamps like so:

Now to try it in the engine bay and see if anything needs to be changed.

It fits, but it's tight. The brake booster hose brackets were removed to get enough clearance - ok because it'll be plugged into a fitting on the inlet pipe.... BUT.... the heater hoses will rub on engine torque... not good at all. I'll have to either re-route them or make a firewall-mounted clamp to pull them back a little.

Also, the throttle body is a little higher than I intended - which will require a tight "S" turn in the accelerator cable - not good, either - but we'll see.

Otherwise, it looks all right.

Oh, I now have an excuse for a hood scoop or a 2" body lift :
