Mark - Thanks, but I'm no longer using the 0-ring fitting that goes into the OE rail, so the test adapter won't work on this. I can install a replacement gauge for either fairly easily and check for accuracy, but I'll wait to see what Corky suggests... right now I'm a little confused wrt what I see on his instructions compared to what I find working with the regulator.

- AND -

I've let it idle now for about 30 minutes and the fuel leak has returned - or another has developed. I'll have to tear it down again and see what gives. It would be nice to deal with only one problem at a time, but I guess I'm not so lucky.

If by chance the electric gauge is correct, I could be over-pressurizing the system and causing leaks - if the mechanical gauge is correct, I may have to completely rework the fuel rail.

There's a pony in here somewhere, but he'll have to wait a few days for me to dig him out.... I've had enough fun for a while.

Thanks - too busy now with holiday things to mess with it. I'm assuming one of the pipe joints is leaking, but not sure. When I take it apart again, I'll have the shop braze all of the joints with air conditioning silver solder that has a thick flow, fills gaps well and higher strength than regular solder. I'd try it myself, but the melt point of that solder is high and an oxy/acetylene torch probably works better than a small propane general purpose torch.

I took the simplest/fastest/cheapest route to the hood issue.... a $95 scoop from Moore Products in NC. I still have to relieve a couple of spots for the hood center crease, but it'll fit pretty well and in addition to the 4 mounting studs, I'll use some marine 5200 to bond and fill the gaps:

After it's painted, it should look ok.

Frank, I LOVE 5200. It sticks to anything except for teflon & Starboard. I used it in the boating industry.

Just don't use it if you ever want to get something apart... LOL

As a side note, if you ever have to make a gasket for Lexan or Plexiglass, use 3M 101. smear it, lightly tighten it, let it set for 24 hours & then tighten it.

That's right, Ed - I've built several boats over the course of my mis-spent youth.

Dude that project is awesome! Cant wait to see final results.

Have you thought of using a piggyback or even a standalone to control the motor?
And the toyota 3.4's with the same m62 blower are runnign 305cc injectors...

For piggyback controllers, you could look at the Perfect Power SMT6 or 7. Standalone, megasquirt.

Thanks - yes, I've considered using an add-on or MS unit, but first wanted to see if a simple system would work since I'm not asking for too much power..... don't yet know if it will.

I'm using the 240cc injectors to hopefully keep the idle quality ok with the OE ECU.... but they do require a fuel pressure boost at full intended boost. If I went to a controller or MS, I wouldn't need the FMU, but would need to increase injector size. Before I went to another controller, I'd try 270cc injectors and peg the fuel pressure to ~38psi and use a 1:1 only regulator.... see if it would idle ok - if it would, there'd probably be no need for another controller, depending on how much the MAF influences mixture under the extra air flow of boost..... I still have lots of tinkering to do - but first I need to stop the leaks.

Frank

It's a poor man's G-Wagen.

Just call me a poser - poseur actually. I could care less what anyone else thinks - it's my truck and I don't know any better - particularly since I'm not a real off-roader.

FYI, I absolutely despise the sales folks at the local MB dealership where I take my wife's '06 M-Class for service and buy parts for my SL. The mechanics and service writers are decent folks, but the sales guys have their heads so far up their they can't see daylight. A few things they can clearly see are the MB badges on my Raider when I drive it to the dealership and park it right in front of the showroom. They particularly like it when they're trying to sell a G-Wagen to a customer and the customer points to mine and asks "How much for that one over there?". It's like waving a red flag at a bull and it's worth every dollar I pay them for parts just to see them get p*ssed.

I particularly like it when their customers ask me about my truck and I tell them that I only use mine for hauling fertilizer and if they shop around they can get one just like it for about $500.

To each his own......

Sometimes I even refer to it as the "Spoofmobile".

The only other reason I can think of is that I only drive Mercedes Benz vehicles.
