This morning I drove it a few miles and checked the A/T fluid - low..... added 3/4 of a quart and it brought the level up to the full HOT mark..... drove it 40 miles to the machine shop - all fine..... drove it home and all was fine until 1 mile from home and saw smoke come out from under the truck when I stopped near home.... A/T temp light came on as I pulled into the garage and it had blown some oil again and had bubbles on the dipstick. Weird - maybe it still had too much fluid in it. The strange thing is how smooth it is - shifts fantastic! With the lockup version, 65mph is ~2600 rpms (just over the torque peak) and 75mph is at ~3,000 rpms - I'll take another look tomorrow.

While I was at the machine shop, we welded the nose drive brace, installed it and the belt. I still have some work to do, but the blower does make a difference. With the 3" pulley I only get 3 psi boost, but what a difference that 3 psi makes. Where the 32" tires used to cause a kickdown from overdrive and even then a slowdown uphill at highway speeds, I now can accelerate on moderate grades at highway speeds without downshifting from O/D. It only needs 1-2psi boost to hold speed on a moderate grade. As soon as I can work the numbers to find out what diameter pulley I need for 7 psi, I'll cut a new smaller pulley and see if I can get some more performance out of it.

I'll have to find different tensioner pulleys - the stock adjuster pulley wants to let the belt ride out toward the nose, causing the belt edge to ride up over the fan pulley edge..... lost one belt today and the second one started to get chewed. Either the stock tensioners have a taper toward the front... or mine is worn.... or my eyes are bad.

When I get the bugs out it should be more fun to drive on the highway - not a tire burner, but not a dog, either.
