Frank,

Your picture host site is infected with a virus... worm or whatever that tries to install stuff on your system.

If you click on the photo link you get a bit more than you expect.

I also have problems with Imagethrust, I use an older version of Netscape but change over to Firefox to open those. I have installed Ad-blocks and other controls in that system. I also run my systems full manual, Cookies, directs etc. To reduce the problems hosts can induce.

The second image is what I always get, scrambled crap. The first one is close enough that you can start the engine on it.
You do not need to spend time on the fuel map till you are running, the engine will tell you, you can not tell it.
On your KPAs I use simple hole numbers, the computer does not care but it is easier for us to have 160KPA or 110 than small decimals.
I load all my tables manually, in the long run it allows you to better understand what is in there. This is more important with timing and AFR at this time since you can get close to the finished values now.
The timing will have everything from 100KPA and below just like a NA engine, so around 32 deg at 100KPA and climbing to 45+ at 30KPA. And above that drop to 15 or so at 160KPA. Then it tapers down to idle settings. Do not fret over settings like 140KPA @1200RPM, the engine should never get there.
On the AFR, your low power can be 15, it does not need to be 14.7, that makes much more typing. Idle needs to be a bit richer, 14 or 13.5 and richen for high power, 12.5 or 12.2 to start.
Again these numbers will change as you gain confidence in the engine when it is running.

Cheers, Charlie

Thanks, Kevin - I'm not having an issue with that site now, but a few months ago some porn folks commandeered it. Now, they require an account and sign-in to upload pictures - supposedly to avoid those issues. Anyway, if others are having problems, maybe I shouldn't use it. Hope you're doing ok and enjoying the new scenery - you've certainly been quiet.

Charlie - thanks for easing my mind on the table generator. I guess I was expecting too much from it. It's a good idea, but not nearly perfected. I'll rewrite the tables manually next week and post so you can look them over.

I guess I should also download and install the AutoTune software. I need to study some on that first.

Frank

Frank,

When I open the top image of post #1022655 I get both the picture and an extra screen that tries to install office 2006. There may be diferances in security settings on differant systems that account for some people seeing the problem and others not.

Why I have been so quite...

I broke my hand several months ( sports accident) ago and developed carpal tunnel from the stress on my wrist from working while wearing a shorty cast. I was only typing when I had to at work.

That and being a new home owner has kept me really busy. Construction projects tend to go very slowy if you only use one hand!

The good news is I gave my hand enough of a rest thats about 95% healed up.

The bad news is the house needs to be painted.

Life is going well hopefully things will slow down so I can get back to my hobby. Although I do need to build a new garage before I'm really set up smile

yes... I usually avoid your pictures like the plague, frank.
I cant say exactly what is wrong, but it's obvious somrthing goes wacky

However, sometimes I just have to look.
Thanks for the effort

Well, Frank, I've been watching this thread since I got on the wire a few months ago. And I have to say, I've learnt a ton from you, Charlie, Eddy and others about engine tuning. I thought I knew a good bit, boy was I wrong I've either been a technician or service manager for the last almost 15 years. That experience has proven invaluable now that I'm in the parts business. Thanks for documenting your trevail in such great detail. I hope to come see this blown-tero in person sometime. Keep up the awesome work
BTW, I haven't had any issues with the photos, but I do have security settings tighter than Ft Knox

Frank...

One last thing: Now that I left California my Raider no longer has to pass a visual inspection. My next mod may be to get rid of the TBI and go to a port injection setup.

Thants why I'm still lurking smile

Good stuff,

Kevin

Port injection on a Starion engine is nice, since it is a fuel only injection you can get it up and running much faster and then add the ignition control as a second operation.

No intention to thread jack, just a comment for Kevin

I've played around with the software and table generators enough to know a couple of things:

1) The table generator doesn't work as expected for a forced injection engine.
2) I've still got a lot to learn about MegaSquirt.

So, I've changed some of the kPa and rpm control bins to represent easier targets to hold on a dyno, then written and manually entered the tables below.... and burned them to the ECU. Many questions remain - but the immediate ones are:

1) Am I in the ballpark with tables that will get the engine started?
2) Are the written tables safe to use as a starting point?

After a few suggestions from Charlie, more reading on the capabilities of MegaSquirt II, V3 and some Diamante 3.0L engine research, I've decided to incorporate a detonation sensor and longer duration camshafts in a new engine. The 10:1 CR SOHC 12v Diamante engines have a detonation sensor plate that I *think* can be used to mount a GM knock sensor that will be compatible with MS2. The SOHC Diamante cams are 262* duration as opposed to the 258* duration cams used in the 8.9:1 CR truck and car engines, so I'll use those for a broader power band.

The idea of piston oil squirters was suggested and considered - decided against them, since AFAIK for 3.0L engines, they're only available in the DOHC 24v turbo variant. There is anecdotal evidence in another thread that the SOHC 12v and DOHC 24v blocks are different, so since I also want a high-mount alternator, I'll have to be content with the SOHC 12v heads, Diamante cams and no oil squirters. Another contributing factor in the decision was that while the DOHC 24v turbo blocks had oil squirters designed-in, the oil pump is different and may provide more flow than the OE SOHC 12v pump - which raises the possibility of potential loss of lubricating oil pressure in a SOHC 12v block as a result of installing oil squirters (if I could even figure out how to install them). Here's an article that pretty much convinced me that I don't want to experiment with oil squirters until someone else proves the idea in this block:

S14 oil squirters

Here's the Diamante engine - pulled from a '95 station wagon:

The detonation sensor and mounting plate can be seen bolted across the block valley - the 10:1 CR pistons will be changed to 8.9:1 OE cast or a lower CR forged set - not certain yet.... toying with the idea of a stroker crank, but probably won't go that route.
